Overview

Portland Canal Transportation Limited Partnership is a groundbreaking joint venture proudly operated by the Nisga’a Nation, Tahltan Nation Development Corporation (TNDC), and Arrow Transportation Systems Inc. This partnership has established the Port of Stewart as British Columbia’s first majority Indigenous-owned port - a significant milestone in advancing Indigenous economic leadership and ensuring full supply chain participation, from mining through to global export. We are looking for a General Labourer to join our operations in beautiful Stewart, BC.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual labour tasks and support operations.  
• Assist with site cleanliness, including sweeping, shoveling, and removal of spilled materials.
• Inspect unloading areas for hazards or obstructions and ensure they are clear before and after truck unloading.
• Follow all workplace safety policies, and compliance regulations, participate in identifying hazards.
• Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols and established metrics.
• Establish or adjust daily tasks/schedules to meet changing order priorities.
• Maintenance of fleet equipment, e.g. wash and paint equipment.
• Follow maintenance testing and repairs procedures of products.
• Keep yard and equipment neat and organized.
• May be asked to travel to other terminals to assist if necessary.
• Provide internal and external Customer Service excellence.
• Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of yard, shop, department, or work crew.
• Ability to understand cross training on all functions at facility.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.

You Possess

• Previous general labourer experience
• Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour in a variety of weather conditions
• Ability to safely and confidently perform duties at elevated heights
• Comfortable working around heavy equipment, trucks, and industrial machinery
• Able to take direction and work both independently and as part of a team
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental responsibility
• Good communication skills and willingness to learn
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays based on shipping schedules
• A positive team attitude
• A strong safety mindset with a commitment to safety protocols
• Solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
