Electrical Estimator

Salary: $100,000 – $130,000 per year
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join our team and take ownership of the full estimating cycle, from identifying and reviewing upcoming bid opportunities through preparing and submitting complete and competitive bid packages.
The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing drawings, specifications, schedules, and tender requirements; preparing detailed take-offs and cost estimates; coordinating with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams; and ensuring final proposals are accurate, complete, and compliant with contract requirements.
For awarded projects, the Electrical Estimator will also participate in and help lead the project handover process, ensuring a smooth transition from estimating to project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify and review new electrical bid and tender opportunities.
- Review customer RFQs, specifications, drawings, schedules, bid documents, and contract requirements to define the complete scope of work.
- Prepare detailed electrical estimates, including labour, materials, equipment, tools, subcontractors, and other project-related costs.
- Complete detailed material and quantity take-offs and interpret multiple disciplines of construction drawings and blueprints.
- Prepare and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) as required during the estimating process.
- Assign scopes of work to subcontractors, suppliers, and internal estimating resources, including self-performed work.
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain accurate and timely pricing before tender closing.
- Coordinate with internal Mechanical, HVAC, and Custom Fabrication divisions to obtain required pricing and scope information.
- Use Accubid to set up estimates and prepare costing, planning, and scheduling reports.
- Develop project execution schedules and consider project methodologies, shutdown requirements, equipment lead times, and construction sequencing.
- Review and analyze subcontractor and supplier proposals as part of the tender close process.
- Prepare complete final cost estimates and bid packages for internal review and approval.
- Ensure all proposals are accurate, complete, competitive, and compliant with contract requirements.
- Organize tender files, documentation, correspondence, pricing, and supporting information.
- Attend pre-tender site visits and lead internal pre- and post-tender bid review meetings.
- Participate in project handover meetings for awarded projects to ensure all relevant estimating information is effectively transferred to the project execution team.
- Establish and maintain project cost controls for equipment, materials, labour, tools, subcontractors, and miscellaneous costs.
- Coordinate material procurement and logistics requirements as needed.
- Maintain communication with the Electrical Division Manager regarding upcoming opportunities and potential projects.
- Attend job progress meetings and provide estimating support as required.
- Assist with contract change orders, deficiencies, close-out items, and other project requirements.
- Support the Electrical Division Manager with additional estimating and operational responsibilities as required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Construction, Engineering, or a related field, or Gold Seal certification in estimating.
- Valid 309A Electrician license.
- Strong electrical estimating experience with hands-on field experience.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience using Accubid.
- Strong understanding of construction specifications, methods, procedures, and project requirements.
- Knowledge of ESA permit fees and inspection requirements.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, engineered drawings, and multiple disciplines of blueprints.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, including RFQs, RFIs, change orders, tendering, and project handover.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of electrical construction and project execution.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills with a positive, professional approach.
- Ability and willingness to attend site walkthroughs and job sites as required.
Preferred Experience
Experience with retrofit projects in occupied buildings would be considered an asset.
