Start Date: ASAP

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Forklift Operators with a strong background in LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) transportation and cross-dock operations to join a busy dock team.

The successful candidates will be responsible for loading outbound trailers, unloading inbound freight and city pickups, verifying shipments, and ensuring freight is properly sorted and staged for the correct destinations. This role requires individuals who can work independently, prioritize tasks, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment without constant supervision.

Candidates with previous LTL cross-dock experience are strongly preferred. Afternoon shift supervisors with relevant LTL operations experience may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts safely and efficiently to load outbound trailers and unload inbound trailers and city pickups.
  • Ensure proper freight placement, weight distribution, stacking, and load security when loading trailers.
  • Verify incoming freight against shipping paperwork and identify shortages, damages, or discrepancies.
  • Label freight, verify destinations, and ensure shipments are staged or loaded onto the correct trailers.
  • Handle a variety of freight, including skids, loose pieces, oversized items, and irregular shipments.
  • Follow loading plans, prioritize time-sensitive and priority freight, and ensure shipments are not left behind.
  • Maintain accurate freight counts and complete required scanning procedures.
  • Sort and stage freight efficiently to support cross-dock operations and upcoming shifts.
  • Coordinate with dock supervisors, dispatch, and other team members to maintain smooth freight movement.
  • Keep dock doors, staging areas, equipment, and workspaces clean, organized, and safe.
  • Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and report damaged freight or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Manage competing priorities independently as freight arrives throughout the afternoon shift.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Previous forklift operating experience in a transportation, LTL, or cross-dock environment.
  • Strong understanding of LTL freight handling, trailer loading, unloading, sorting, and shipment staging.
  • Experience handling mixed freight, including skids, loose pieces, oversized freight, and irregular shipments.
  • Knowledge of freight documentation, shipment labels, scanning procedures, and destination verification.
  • Ability to follow loading plans and prioritize freight based on operational requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe loading practices.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and maintain productivity with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dock environment and adapt to changing freight volumes.
  • Valid forklift certification, as required by the employer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an LTL terminal or cross-dock operation.
  • Experience with afternoon shift dock operations, including outbound loading and receiving city pickups.
  • Previous experience as a dock lead or afternoon shift supervisor in an LTL transportation environment.
