Original job description

About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior Software Developer with deep Java technology expertise to work directly with our Fintech clients in the Spread Products space. This is a hybrid engineering/customer-facing role for someone who can architect, build, and deploy production-grade solutions on-site or in close collaboration with client trading, risk, and operations teams - while owning the full technical delivery lifecycle from discovery to production hardening. The ideal candidate is already an experienced Full-Stack/Backend Architect (Java and/or Python) who thrives in ambiguous, fast-paced client environments, can rapidly translate complex business requirements into working software, and is comfortable being the technical face of the engineering organization in front of customers. Domain exposure to Financing and Securitization business is a plus, not a prerequisite.

Duration: 6 Months

Location: Toronto, ON/ Mississauga, ON (Hybrid)

Open to Discuss.

Responsibilities:

Customer Delivery & Field Engineering: Act as the primary technical point of contact embedded with client teams to gather requirements, scope solutions, and define technical sequencing.
Rapidly prototype and deliver production-ready applications - using Java or Python, whichever best fits the use case - that solve real trading, risk, and operational problems.
Balance tradeoffs between scope, speed, and quality to meet aggressive client timelines without compromising system integrity.
Own Discovery & Scoping engagements - translating ambiguous business asks into clear technical specifications and delivery plans.
Demonstrate strong business acumen: understand ROI/AI impact, enterprise workflows, stakeholder management, and establish continuous product feedback loops with client stakeholders.
Produce clear technical documentation and communicate complex architecture decisions to both engineering and non-technical business audiences.
Architecture & Development: Architect and build scalable, resilient full-stack applications using Java (Spring Boot/Spring Framework, Microservices) and/or Python (FastAPI/Flask), tailored to enterprise financial workflows.
Leverage Python for rapid prototyping, data analytics, pricing/risk calculations, and automation scripts where appropriate.
Apply strong data modeling and query optimization skills across Oracle Database, MS SQL Server, and MongoDB.
DevOps, CI/CD & Infrastructure: Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Tekton (Red Hat OpenShift Pipelines) and Jenkins to enable rapid, reliable, and auditable deployments for both Java and Python services.
Deploy and manage containerized workloads on OpenShift/Kubernetes, applying infrastructure-as-code best practices.

Required Skills

Programming Languages: Java (Core Java, Java 17+), Python 3.x, Object-Oriented Design
Java Frameworks: Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Microservices Architecture, REST/gRPC APIs
Python Frameworks: FastAPI, Flask/Django, Pandas/NumPy for data manipulation, Pydantic
CI/CD & Pipelines: Tekton (Red Hat OpenShift Pipelines), Jenkins
Containers & Orchestration: OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker
Databases (Relational): Oracle Database, Client SQL Server
Databases (NoSQL): MongoDB
Frontend (working knowledge): HTML/CSS/JavaScript, basic frontend frameworks (React/Angular) for full-stack delivery
API & Integration: REST, messaging/streaming (Kafka or similar), third-party system integration

Preferred Skills

Good-to-Have Technical Skills: Monitoring/Observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK/Splunk)
Experience with event-driven architectures
Python-based data science/quant tooling (Jupyter, scikit-learn) for analytics or pricing use cases
Scripting/automation experience combining Java and Python within the same delivery pipeline
