Quality Insights Manager
Department: Quality
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Vancouver
Compensation: CA$120,000 - CA$140,000 / year
Description
Hi there, we’re Article. 👋 Since 2013, we have been redefining the furniture industry one sofa at a time, it’s not easy - it requires solving challenging, meaningful problems. This is where you come in, as a Manager, Quality Insights, you'll reassess, clean up, and structure our quality insights framework into systematic, decision-driving intelligence that reduces our total cost of poor quality (COPQ).
Why We Need You:
Currently, we have quality data, but the framework needs to be standardized, connected, and made truly actionable. This role sits at the center of that transformation. You’ll connect upstream inspection data with post-market defect and customer claim data, creating a single, trusted view of quality performance that supports continuous improvement and smarter decisions.
Within the first few months, you’d reassess our current quality insights framework, standardizing defect codes and proposing a connected data model alongside our Business Intelligence & Analytics (BIA) team. In a year, you’ll be proud to say you’ve built a robust, decision-ready quality intelligence system and led root cause investigations that measurably reduced quality defects across product categories.
About the Quality team:
The Quality team operates cross-functionally, connecting upstream supply chain signals with downstream customer feedback. You will work closely with Quality Operations & Incident Management, Category Management, Business Intelligence & Analytics (BIA), Vendor Quality Teams (VQT), and Sourcing.
This is a hybrid role based at our Vancouver HQ. You’ll be in the office 3 days per week, collaborating closely with partners across the business.
**Requires flexibility to work across multiple time zones to accommodate international team members and external business partners (typically PST 5–8pm, approximately 1 day per week).
What You’ll Do
You’ll be leading a team of two Quality Insight Analysts while partnering with cross-functional leaders to drive quality improvement initiatives.
- Reassess and structure the quality insights framework, defining metrics, reporting cadences, and target audiences.
- Connect upstream Qarma inspection data with post-market defect reports and customer claim data for full lifecycle product visibility.
- Standardize defect codes and quality taxonomy across the business to establish a clean data foundation.
- Partner with BIA to build dashboards and reporting tools that make quality performance clear and actionable for leadership and Category Management.
- Act as investigation quarterback for root cause analysis on major or recurring quality issues using 5 Whys, Fishbone, or DMAIC methodologies.
- Formulate CAPA recommendations and collaborate with Quality Operations on follow-through and effectiveness reviews.
- Track and report COPQ trends to highlight the financial impact of quality issues and improvement projects
- Provide decision-ready quality intelligence and trend analysis to Category Management to inform range decisions and supplier accountability.
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of Quality Insight Analysts to move beyond basic reporting into hypothesis-driven analysis.
- Collaborate with VQT, Sourcing, and Operations to address systemic supplier or product defect issues.
Travel Required
- May require up to 10% travel.
Who You Are
- 5+ years of experience in quality management, data analytics, or continuous improvement with demonstrated operational impact.
- 2+ years of direct team management experience.
- Proven track record evaluating, restructuring, or building reporting frameworks and quality processes from scratch.
- Hands-on expertise with structured root cause analysis frameworks (e.g., DMAIC, 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams).
- Skilled at translating complex, messy datasets into clear narratives and actionable insights for senior non-technical leadership.
- Comfortable influencing cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority.
- Proficient with BI platforms (Tableau, Power BI, etc.), data analysis tools, and inspection software (e.g., Qarma).
- Strong builder mindset with high tolerance for ambiguity and pragmatic problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or college equivalent; Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher is preferred.
- Legally able to work in Canada.
- Completion of criminal background check.
