Position Summary |
The Controller, Corporate plays a key role in managing the company's financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial reporting. This position supports the Vice President, Finance in overseeing accounting functions, preparing financial statements, and managing budget and forecasting activities. Additionally, the role provides financial analysis to support strategic initiatives and key decision-making.
This position requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The Controller, Corporate will collaborate closely with the Accounting and Property Management teams to ensure accurate reporting, financial integrity, and effective cash management.
Regular work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities |
- Preparation of annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
- Leading external audits, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
- Preparation of internal cash flow projections and effectively managing and communicating cash flow-related issues.
- Updating cash flow forecasts and management reports to support financial decision-
- Ensure adherence to company policies, lender requirements, and investor reporting
- Ensure all financial transactions, including revenue and expense accruals, are accurately recorded and
- Ensure all transactions are recorded to prepare accurate and timely financial
- Assist in implementing accounting policies and procedures, identifying and resolving accounting issues, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting and industry standards, and regulations.
- Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and
- Work through complex transactions to document and complete journal
- Identify and resolve accounting issues and discrepancies and communicate with stakeholders as
- Prepare annual budget working papers and assist with presentation
- Perform cost analysis of operational results compared to budgets and forecasts, identifying key variances and
- Support long-term financial planning and
- Supervise the daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, bank contacts, lenders, and other service providers as
- Support financial due diligence on potential
- Support cross-functional teams in financial decision-making and
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather information for accounting and reporting and support leadership with ad hoc and regular reporting requests.
Qualifications |
- Completion of a recognized accounting designation (CPA)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a corporate controller role (commercial real estate preferred), and minimum 10-15 years of experience in senior accounting roles
- Previous public accounting experience is preferred
- Previous treasury, cash management, payroll, and budgeting and forecasting experience
- Accuracy and attention to detail is a requirement
- Ability to work successfully within a team environment and independently
- Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills, and critical thinking skills
- Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of MS Excel
- Maintain highest standard of work ethic and trustworthiness
- Proficiency in Yardi software would be considered an asset
- Successful City of Calgary Police Information/Criminal Record Check
