Original job description

Description

Company Description:

Aspida Re Services Ltd. (“Aspida Re Services”) is a Bermuda based service provider to Aspida’s reinsurance companies. Aspida Re Services provides annuity and life insurance companies with tailored risk management solutions, with a specialization in closed block and new business flow reinsurance of asset-intensive and interest rate-sensitive annuity and life insurance liabilities. Aspida Re Services has a dedicated team of 14 reinsurance professionals based Bermuda and Cayman responsible for reinsurance pricing, operations, and risk management. Aspida is backed by Ares Management Corporation, “Ares” (NYSE: ARES), which, through the Ares Insurance Solutions team, provides dedicated investment management, capital solutions and corporate development support. For more information, please visit aspidare.bm.

Aspida Re Services is seeking an Actuary to support Economic Balance Sheet (EBS) valuation for Bermuda and non-Bermuda entities included in Group reporting. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Actuary, the Actuary will contribute to quarterly and annual valuations, financial and regulatory reporting, forecasting, and strategic analysis, working closely with actuarial, finance, risk, and investment teams across the Group.

Who We Are:

Sometimes, a group of people come together and create something amazing. They don’t let egos get in the way. They don’t settle for the status quo, and they don’t complain when things get tough. Instead, they see a common vision for the future and each person makes an unspoken commitment to building that future together. That’s the culture, the moxie, and the story of Aspida.

Our business focuses on annuities and life insurance. At first, it might not sound flashy, but that’s why we’re doing things differently than everyone else in our industry. We’re dedicated to developing data-driven tech solutions, providing amazing customer experiences, and applying an entrepreneurial spirit to everything we do. Our work ethic is built on three main tenets: Get $#!+ Done, Do It with Moxie, and Have Fun. If this sounds like the place for you, read on, and then apply at aspida.com/careers.

What We Are Looking For:

Aspida Re Services is seeking an Actuary to support Economic Balance Sheet (EBS) valuation for Bermuda and non-Bermuda entities included in Group reporting. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Actuary, the Actuary will contribute to quarterly and annual valuations, financial and regulatory reporting, forecasting, and strategic analysis, working closely with actuarial, finance, risk, and investment teams across the Group.

What We Are Looking For:

Develop, maintain, and run actuarial valuation models, with appropriate data validations, reconciliations, and controls to support accurate and timely reporting.
Support quarterly and annual EBS valuations, including best estimate liabilities (BEL), risk margin, and technical provisions.
Prepare reserve rollforwards and analysis of movements, explaining the impact of business activity, market conditions, experience, and changes in assumptions or models.
Develop and enhance actuarial models for existing and new treaties, including cashflow projections and Scenario-Based Approach (SBA) modeling.
Support entity and Group regulatory filings, capital reporting, and responses to queries from regulators, auditors, and the Approved Actuary.
Contribute to forecasts, business plans, and sensitivity and scenario analysis to assess the impact of market movements, new business, and strategic initiatives on reserves and capital.
Participate in experience studies and assumption reviews, assess emerging trends, and document recommendations and impact of assumption changes.
Improve valuation processes through automation and stronger controls, maintain clear documentation of models, methodologies, assumptions, and model changes.
Manage competing priorities and deliver reporting, analysis, and special projects within agreed timeline.
Monitor relevant Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) developments and support the implementation of changes affecting entity and Group EBS reporting.

Requirements

What We Require:

FSA or equivalent
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Actuarial Science, or other numerate discipline
At least 5 years of life (re)insurance experience preferred, including valuation, financial reporting, and actuarial modeling
Strong understanding of Bermuda EBS (preferred) or other equivalent jurisdictions (including Solvency II, Canadian standards, US Cashflow Testing)
Proficiency with Moody’s Axis or other actuarial modeling software is required
Experience with data management in R, Python, or related languages is a plus
Strong technical, analytical, organizational, and business writing skills

Why You’re The One For Us:

You remain composed under pressure and bring a positive attitude to work
You treat others with respect and act with integrity
You ask thoughtful questions, and constructively challenge assumptions to improve quality of the work
You anticipate obstacles, take ownership of your work, and follow through on commitments
You are curious, adaptable, and willing to explore better ways of working and learn from experience
