The position suits someone who thrives in a fast-paced, change-driven environment, demonstrates strong judgment, and takes ownership of their work while contributing to a collaborative operations team.
Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule pickups and deliveries based on freight volume, customer requirements, driver availability, equipment capacity, and service commitments.
- Assign and communicate work to drivers, provide clear and detailed instructions, and monitor progress throughout the shift.
- Optimize routes and loads to improve equipment utilization, reduce unnecessary mileage, and support consistent on-time service.
- Monitor shipment status and respond promptly to delays, breakdowns, weather issues, missed pickups, delivery problems, and last-minute changes.
- Coordinate closely with warehouse teams, customer service, linehaul operations, partner carriers, and internal leadership to maintain freight flow and resolve exceptions.
- Provide accurate and timely updates to customers and internal teams regarding pickup, transit, and delivery status.
- Maintain complete and accurate dispatch records, including notes, driver communications, and system updates.
- Follow company safety procedures, operating requirements, customer instructions, and applicable transportation regulations.
- Escalate major service, safety, equipment, or customer issues to management in a timely and clear manner.
- Use dispatch or transportation management systems, email, and Microsoft Office tools to manage daily operations and document activities.
- Apply strong knowledge of Lower Mainland geography, routes, and realistic drive times when planning and adjusting work.
- Use practical understanding of trucks, equipment, and load capacity to assign appropriate vehicles (for example, 5-ton versus 3-ton trucks) to specific loads.
- Interact professionally with customers in a client-facing environment, addressing inquiries and resolving service issues.
- Manage multiple changing priorities, make practical decisions quickly, and maintain composure under pressure.
- Collaborate with dispatch, warehouse, and customer service teams to support a cohesive and efficient operation.
- Demonstrate urgency, adaptability, and follow-through when resolving operational issues and service disruptions.
- Ensure accurate, timely system updates and documentation to support reliable reporting and communication.
- Participate in in-house training and development programs and take advantage of advancement opportunities as responsibilities grow.

- Strong knowledge of Lower Mainland geography, including routes, drive times, and realistic travel durations between different areas.
- Understanding of trucks, equipment, and load capacity, including practical knowledge of when different vehicle types (such as 5-ton versus 3-ton trucks) are appropriate.
- Proficiency with dispatch or transportation management systems, email, and Microsoft Office.
- Good general computer skills and comfort learning web-based proprietary internal systems.
- Knowledge of transportation safety and regulatory requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience interacting with customers in client-facing environments.
- Ability to manage multiple changing priorities and make practical decisions quickly.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accurate system updates and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Dependable follow-through and sound judgment in operational decision-making.
- Ability to work effectively with strong personalities and within a dynamic, change-driven environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience dispatching or managing drivers.
- Experience as a driver or delivery driver, especially with knowledge of Lower Mainland routes, drive times, driver challenges, deliveries and pickups, and different vehicles and load requirements.

- Core competencies in routing, scheduling, and load-planning judgment.
- Ability to communicate clearly with drivers and customers and maintain professional relationships.
- Demonstrated urgency, adaptability, and consistent follow-through in daily operations.
- Calm, practical approach to issue resolution under pressure.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate across dispatch, warehouse, and customer service teams.
- Interest in long-term growth, taking ownership, and assuming greater responsibility over time.
- Willingness to participate in in-house training and advancement programs supported by the company.
Work Environment
The role is primarily office-based with extensive computer and telephone use throughout the day.
