Supply Chain Manager
About the Company
Our client designs and builds modular data center infrastructure for AI and high-performance computing. Their factory-built system combines power, cooling and compute in one unit, and they sell to neo-cloud, enterprise and hyperscale customers. They have manufacturing sites in Canada and the U.S. and are growing quickly, with several large projects heading toward delivery. They need a Supply Chain Manager to lead procurement and own the material plan, from the bill of materials through to delivery on the shop floor. Long-lead equipment takes anywhere from 6 to 20 weeks to arrive, and your job is to make sure it shows up when production needs it, without paying for air freight. You'll lead the procurement team and stay hands-on. The leadership group is small and moves fast, so you'll have a real say in how things get done. The business is growing, and the scope of the role will grow with it.
What You'll Do
- Lead the procurement team as a working manager. You'll set priorities and standards, and get into the day-to-day where it helps.
- Own the project supply chain plan, from engineering BOMs through POs, expediting and receipt, in line with the project schedule.
- Manage procurement of long-lead equipment such as switchgear, transformers, battery storage, busway, chillers, pumps and air handlers (CRAH units).
- Build and maintain the procurement schedule, track lead times and flag risks to the project team early.
- Run supplier selection, RFQs, bid comparisons and negotiations on price, terms and delivery. Support terms and conditions reviews.
- Negotiate large-volume agreements and inventory/supply arrangements, including volume discounts and stock-and-draw. Renegotiate existing supplier contracts where there's value.
- Manage an established global supply base, including overseas vendors (particularly in Asia), alongside team members who already support those relationships.
- Expedite vendors and coordinate inspections, factory testing and quality documentation (UL, certifications, data books).
- Coordinate inbound logistics, including cross-border shipments between Canada and the U.S. (customs, Incoterms, freight), and make the calls that avoid air freight.
- Track material spend against the project budget and support change orders, forecasting and cost reporting.
- Work with engineering, production, project management and finance to fix shortages and keep production moving.
- Set up the processes, KPIs and reporting the team will need as the company takes on more projects.
- Report status, risks and recovery plans to operations leadership.
Work Environment
- Fully on-site. The team works in the building together.
- Minimal travel, mostly occasional supplier site visits for technical validation.
- Fast-paced, with large projects and tight timelines. They're looking for someone ambitious and adaptable who wants to grow with the company.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years in supply chain or procurement.
- 3+ years engineered-to-order or project manufacturing experience (modular fabrication, electrical equipment, EPC or industrial construction)
- 1+ years leading a procurement or supply chain team as a working manager.
- 3 + years sourcing/RFP, negotiation and contracting, including large-volume pricing and inventory/supply arrangements (e.g., stock and draw).
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with overseas vendors, especially in Asia and China
- Cross-border CanadaU.S. logistics and trade compliance experience
- Experience at a large-scale company, with full-cycle procurement exposure
- Data center, mission-critical or power infrastructure project experience
- Experience scaling procurement processes in a high-growth or mid-sized manufacturer
- PMP, CSCP, SCMP or similar certification
SOFT SKILLS
- Ambitious and adaptable
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of work
- Open to new approaches
