Original job description

At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values (what we call the ATB ID).

Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members:

Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities.

Thrive together: We want you - the unique, authentic you - to feel safe and celebrated at work. We're on a continuous journey to build the most flexible and inclusive programs.

Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development.

About the Role

The Associate Director Loan Syndications is a key role within our Capital Markets division, responsible for the structuring, pricing, execution, and distribution of syndicated loan transactions for our corporate clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in credit analysis and deal execution. You will play a pivotal role in leading high-profile transactions and contributing directly to the team's success and market presence.

Accountabilities

Transaction Structuring:

Collaborate with Corporate bankers and Investment Banking teams to assist in the origination of new syndication opportunities.
Responsible for the due diligence process, conduct in-depth credit analysis, and develop complex financial models to support financing structures.
Manage the structuring, negotiation, and pricing of existing syndicated loan facilities, and collaborate with the Vice President and Executive Director of Loan Syndications on prospective deals, to meet client needs while optimizing for successful syndication and market reception.

Execution & Syndication:

Responsible for the preparation of high-quality marketing materials, including Confidential Information Memorandums (CIMs), lender presentations, and financial models for potential investors.
Collaborate with the Vice President and Executive Director of Loan Syndications to develop and execute syndication strategies, identifying and engaging with potential syndicate partners.
Together with the Vice President or Executive Director (for new transactions), manage the "book-building" process, track lender interest, and provide strategic recommendations on allocation and pricing.
Independently, or in collaboration with the Vice President, host bank meetings and effectively communicate the credit story and transaction merits to the lender community.

Negotiation & Closing:

Negotiate credit agreements, term sheets, and other legal documentation in partnership with legal counsel.
Coordinate with the borrower, syndicate members, and internal teams to ensure a smooth and timely transaction closing process.

Market Intelligence & Mentorship:

Maintain a deep understanding of current loan market conditions, pricing trends, and structural conventions.
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with other financial institutions.

Skills, Experience & Requirements

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related quantitative field.
3-5 years of relevant experience in loan syndications, leveraged finance, corporate banking, or debt capital markets.
Strong credit analysis and powerpoint skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling presentations and marketing materials.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Preferred:

MBA, CFA, or other relevant professional designation is a strong asset.
Experience covering specific industries relevant in Canada (e.g., Energy, Power & Utilities, Agribusiness).
Experience with syndication software and platforms (e.g., SyndTrak, DebtDomain, Intralinks).

Don’t meet all the requirements on the list?
A resume only goes so far in expressing who you are and the unique perspectives you bring. If you believe your skills and experience align with the role - but you might not check all the boxes - we want to hear from you. We encourage candidates from all work backgrounds, equity-seeking communities and experience levels to apply. If you’re seeking a career where your drive, perspective and growth are celebrated, we want to hear from you.

We’re dedicated to building a workforce reflective of those within our communities, and a culture where our team members are equipped with what they need to succeed - their way. Part of creating an inclusive workplace is recognizing our role in advancing Truth and Reconciliation. We are committed to meeting and exceeding the standards set out in the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations program created by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business.
