Original job description

At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values (what we call the ATB ID).

Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members:

Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities.

Thrive together: We want you - the unique, authentic you - to feel safe and celebrated at work. We're on a continuous journey to build the most flexible and inclusive programs.

Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development.

About the Role

Ready to help shape Alberta’s multi-family landscape? As an Associate, Multi-Unit Financing, you will be an integral member of the ATB Commercial Real Estate team, directly supporting Directors and Relationship Managers with our CMHC book of business.

You will take ownership of underwriting credit requests for ATB while acting as the primary point of contact for CMHC underwriters - guiding Mortgage Loan Insurance applications from submission through to final funding. If you have sharp analytical instincts, proven commercial credit skills, and a strong command of CMHC programs like MLI Select, this is an opportunity to make a tangible impact on large-scale housing developments across the province.

Accountabilities

Credit Underwriting & Risk Analysis

Analyze complex commercial credit applications, identifying key credit risks, structuring appropriate terms, and establishing effective mitigants.
Perform detailed financial statement and cash flow analysis to calculate financial covenants, borrowing capacities, and serviceability thresholds.
Interpret and apply ATB credit policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory frameworks alongside CMHC Approved Lender standards.

CMHC Deal Execution & Portfolio Management

Partner with Directors and Relationship Managers to manage end-to-end CMHC loan origination, from initial submission and Certificate of Insurance (COI) issuance through to final credit approval and funding.
Execute annual reviews, loan amendments, and new money requests for existing portfolio accounts in compliance with CMHC criteria.
Review construction and term draw requests, ensuring complete documentation, covenant compliance, and adherence to CMHC guidelines and ATB lending policies.

Portfolio Monitoring & Administration

Proactively identify early warning indicators and mitigate credit deterioration through continuous monitoring of borrower financial statements, interim updates, and market trends.
Identify operational efficiencies to support deal flow velocity and enhance business unit profitability.

Relationship Management & Stakeholder Engagement

Establish and nurture productive working relationships with designated CMHC underwriters and internal deal teams to facilitate prompt, smooth deal approvals.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

What You Bring:

Education & Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
Lending Experience: 3 to 6 years of progressive experience in commercial real estate lending, credit adjudication, or financial analysis.
CMHC Expertise: Hands-on experience navigating CMHC multi-unit residential products, underwriting guidelines, and submission processes (direct familiarity with the MLI Select framework is highly desirable).
Financial & Analytical Rigor: Advanced financial statement analysis skills, cash flow modeling, and the ability to understand complex credit profiles with high attention to detail.
Communication & Negotiation: Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting credit rationale to senior leaders and liaising directly with external CMHC partners.
Drive & Autonomy: Proven track record of managing competing deal deadlines independently with minimal supervision, balanced with a collaborative team-first mindset.

Attributes That Set You Apart (Assets):

Credit & Construction Acumen: Demonstrated background in conventional commercial real estate financing, with exposure to construction draw facilities and term-out loan structures.
A completed or in-progress professional designation or master's degree (CFA, CPA, or MBA).
Prior working relationships or direct interaction with CMHC underwriting teams.

Workplace Arrangement

This position has a hybrid work arrangement. You’ll work both remote and onsite, where time onsite is based on your job accountabilities and performance objectives.

Don’t meet all the requirements on the list?
A resume only goes so far in expressing who you are and the unique perspectives you bring. If you believe your skills and experience align with the role - but you might not check all the boxes - we want to hear from you. We encourage candidates from all work backgrounds, equity-seeking communities and experience levels to apply. If you’re seeking a career where your drive, perspective and growth are celebrated, we want to hear from you.

We’re dedicated to building a workforce reflective of those within our communities, and a culture where our team members are equipped with what they need to succeed - their way. Part of creating an inclusive workplace is recognizing our role in advancing Truth and Reconciliation. We are committed to meeting and exceeding the standards set out in the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations program created by the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business.

What happens next?
If you are shortlisted, you’ll hear from us after the posting closes. Check out our How We Hire page to learn more about our hiring process. If you need any accommodations throughout this process, please let us know at talentteam@atb.com
