Naka Power Utilities (NWT) delivers essential electricity services to communities across the Northwest Territories through a unique Indigenous partnership. This role offers the opportunity to lead work that directly supports safe, reliable, and sustainable electricity services that underpin communities, industry, and economic development in the North. You will have a visible impact on Northern communities and Indigenous partners while shaping the future of utility infrastructure in the region.

What You’ll Do:

Construct, operate, and maintain overhead and underground power lines, substations, and related equipment.
Install and maintain street lighting systems, adhering to quality and safety standards.
Execute system switching, in line with Electrical Operations Standards.
Supervise contracted labor effectively, ensuring compliance and quality.
Administer maintenance programs and system inspections, while maintaining comprehensive documentation.
Collaborate with electrical technicians for equipment installation and maintenance.
Diagnose and troubleshoot system faults, offering both immediate and long-term solutions.
Handle emergency response and standby duties efficiently.
Coordinate outages and execute switching orders with precision.
Respond to customer service requests promptly and professionally.
Participate in company-sponsored community relations activities.
Maintain and operate company vehicles and equipment responsibly.
Uphold stringent safety and environmental regulations.
Lead, coach, and mentor apprentices and colleagues as required.
Engage in continuous personal and professional development.

What You Bring:

Valid Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate.
Valid or eligibility for Interprovincial Red Seal.
Demonstrated knowledge of live line techniques using bare hand, sticks, and 25kv rubber glove work achieved through live line training is preferred. 
Valid Class 5 vehicle operator's license; ability to obtain Class 1 or Class 3 Operator's License.
Valid First Aid Certificate.

Hay River is a designated community and a comprehensive northern benefit package will be provided, including:

An additional 5.2% of base salary (northern allowance)
An additional $660 a month (northern allowance)
Additional 5 days’ vacation for North of 60 positions

Responsibilities

Construct, operate, inspect, and maintain overhead and underground powerlines, substations, street lighting, and related equipment, including system switching, outage coordination, and emergency response. Coordinate employees and contractors, troubleshoot faults, support customers, maintain records and equipment, and uphold safety and environmental standards while mentoring colleagues and apprentices.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a valid Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate and a valid First Aid Certificate, and must hold or be eligible for an Interprovincial Red Seal. A valid Class 5 driver's licence is required, with the ability to obtain a Class 1 or Class 3 licence; live-line training and experience with bare-hand, stick, and 25 kV rubber-glove techniques are preferred.
