Job Description
Overview
Responsible for planning, integration, execution, closeout and turnover of commissioning activities for Monark-D. The Commissioning Director establishes the commissioning strategy and organization; develops the integrated commissioning schedule, procedures, work packages, readiness criteria and resource plans; and defines the temporary tooling, test equipment, utilities, facilities and services required to transition systems safely from construction through testing and into operation.
The role is the primary commissioning interface with Engineering, Construction, Project Controls, operations, suppliers and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. It ensures commissioning activities, evidence, hold points and regulatory commitments are planned and executed in an integrated manner; maintains configuration and test control; confirms system readiness; manages deficiencies and test results; and coordinates closeout documentation, system turnover and final handover to the operating organization.
Your role
- Develop and maintain the commissioning strategy, execution plan, organization, governance and readiness framework from detailed design through final handover.
- Develop and control commissioning schedules, system and subsystem boundaries, testing sequences, resource plans, regulatory milestones and construction and operations interfaces.
- Lead preparation, review, approval and implementation of commissioning procedures, work packages, test plans, acceptance criteria and records.
- Define temporary tooling, test equipment, utilities, facilities, materials, vendor support and temporary services.
- Manage commissioning execution, including work control, configuration control, permits, isolations, test conduct, deficiency resolution, retesting and performance reporting.
- Serve as the primary commissioning interface with the CNSC and licensing organization for submissions, inspections, hold points, commitments, evidence and issue resolution.
- Establish and verify system-readiness criteria before testing.
- Coordinate Engineering, Construction, Project Controls, Supply Chain, suppliers, operations and maintenance.
- Lead commissioning closeout, including acceptance of test results, deficiency disposition, regulatory closure, records completion and lessons learned.
- Manage system turnover and final handover to the operating organization.
About you
- Degree or diploma in engineering, engineering technology, construction, operations or a related technical discipline; equivalent senior nuclear commissioning, operations, maintenance or field leadership experience may be considered. Professional engineering, project management, nuclear operator or relevant trade credentials are assets.
- Typically, 15+ years of progressive experience in nuclear power or another highly regulated industry, including substantial responsibility for commissioning, startup, testing, system turnover, operations readiness or major project execution.
- Demonstrated experience developing commissioning strategies, integrated schedules, procedures, work packages, test programs, temporary tooling and services, readiness criteria and system turnover plans, with direct leadership of field execution and closeout.
- Strong working knowledge of CNSC expectations, nuclear safety culture, licensing, quality assurance, configuration management, work control, testing governance and regulatory evidence, with proven multidisciplinary leadership and senior-level reporting capability.
