Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Aquatic Biologist to join our Environmental Assessment & Community Engagement (EACE) Team. This senior-level position can be based out of our Vancouver office within the Lower Mainland, or our Victoria or Nanaimo offices on Vancouver Island. Other office locations across British Columbia may also be considered.

This role is focused on technical leadership, environmental assessment, regulatory strategy, client advisory services, and mentorship. While occasional site visits may be required, the position is primarily office-based and does not involve routine fieldwork.

Your role

  • Provide senior technical leadership for fisheries, aquatic ecology, fish habitat, and aquatic effects assessment projects.
  • Lead the development and review of technical studies, environmental assessment submissions, monitoring plans, regulatory applications, and environmental management documents.
  • Provide strategic advice to clients and project teams regarding federal and provincial environmental legislation, policy, permitting requirements, and regulatory approvals.
  • Support aquatic components of environmental assessments, impact assessments, and major project reviews across British Columbia and Canada.
  • Develop mitigation, monitoring, habitat restoration, habitat offsetting, and adaptive management strategies to address project-related impacts on aquatic resources.
  • Engage with regulators, Indigenous Nations, clients, and multidisciplinary project teams to support project planning and environmental decision-making.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior and intermediate biologists, helping maintain the highest standards of scientific quality and technical excellence.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and technical excellence of the Environmental Assessment & Community Engagement practice through knowledge sharing, thought leadership, and business development support.

About you

  • B.Sc., or M.Sc. degree in Biology, Fisheries, Aquatic Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) designation in good standing.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in fisheries biology, aquatic ecology, environmental assessment, environmental permitting, or related consulting disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting provincial and federal environmental assessment and regulatory review processes.
  • Experience obtaining or supporting approvals, permits, authorizations, and regulatory reviews under legislation such as the Fisheries Act, Impact Assessment Act, Species at Risk Act, Canadian Navigable Waters Act, and other applicable environmental legislation
  • Experience developing mitigation strategies, environmental monitoring programs, habitat restoration initiatives, and aquatic effects assessments.
  • Strong understanding of freshwater and marine ecosystems within British Columbia.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience on complex infrastructure, transportation, energy, mining, or community development projects.
  • Exceptional technical writing, communication, critical thinking, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle for any field work.
