Role Description
The Sr Security Systems Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. This role is responsible for installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining security systems such as access control, CCTV, cameras, alarms, and related hardware and software. The technician will perform site surveys, interpret technical drawings and specifications, run and terminate cabling, program devices and controllers, and integrate systems into customer networks. Day-to-day activities include troubleshooting and diagnosing system issues, performing preventive maintenance, documenting work performed, and ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards. The role also involves collaborating with project managers and other team members, providing technical support to clients, training end users on system operation, and contributing to the design and improvement of security solutions.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with access control systems, CCTV, IP cameras, alarm systems, and related security hardware and software.
- Strong skills in system installation and configuration, including cabling, device mounting, equipment rack layout, and field terminations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and project documentation, and to follow standardized installation procedures.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of security systems, including root cause analysis and preventive maintenance.
- Experience integrating physical security systems with IT networks, including basic understanding of IP networking, routers, switches, and VLANs.
- Knowledge of industry standards, safety practices, and applicable codes related to low-voltage and security system installations.
- Effective communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly and work collaboratively with clients and team members.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, including maintaining detailed records, service logs, and project documentation.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to client sites as required, including occasional work outside standard business hours.
