Original job description

ABOUT AUGUST GROUP

August Group is a boutique multi-family office providing integrated wealth planning, tax, estate, and family office services to high-net-worth individuals and families across Canada and the US, including professional athletes and their families.

THE ROLE

The Family Office Associate supports the Head of Wealth Planning by triaging and analyzing base planning scenarios and taking ownership of an assigned portfolio of client households. This is an advisory role rather than an operational one, with client exposure that grows through shadowing the Head of Wealth Planning and executive leadership. Over time, the Associate develops into a relationship manager role across estate, tax, cash flow, retirement, and risk management planning for a sophisticated, cross-border client base.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Triage and analyze base planning scenarios across cash flow, retirement, tax, estate, and risk management, flagging issues for senior or specialist review
  • Build and maintain client plans, net worth statements, and cash flow projections using August Group's in-house planning tools
  • Serve as planning lead for an assigned portfolio of client households, under the oversight of the Head of Wealth Planning
  • Prepare for and follow up on client review meetings, translating analysis into clear, client-ready recommendations
  • Attend client meetings alongside the Head of Wealth Planning and executive leadership, taking ownership of notes and follow-ups
  • Lead agreed portions of client meetings for assigned households as experience and client trust develop
  • Work with clients' external professionals, including accountants, estate lawyers, insurance brokers, and private bankers
  • Coordinate with the investment, tax, and operations teams to deliver complete and timely client work
  • Contribute to planning templates, process improvements, and the team's use of AI and planning technology
  • Perform other planning and advisory duties as required to support evolving business needs and departmental priorities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 to 5 years in financial planning, wealth management, private banking, or a tax or accounting practice serving individuals and families
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, commerce, economics, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of financial, cash flow, retirement, tax, estate, and risk management planning, with the judgment to know when to escalate
  • CFP designation is preferred; candidates actively working towards the CFP will be considered
  • Family office or high-net-worth advisory experience is an asset
  • Investment background or credentials (e.g., CSC, CIM, or progress towards the CFA) are an asset, though not required
  • Exposure to Canada and US cross-border planning, or to professional athletes and their families, is an asset
  • Strong Excel and modelling skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Clear written and verbal communication, suited to clients and senior professionals
  • Proficient in leveraging AI tools and technology to improve analysis, productivity, and client deliverables
  • Experience with portfolio management or CRM platforms (e.g., Addepar, Wealthbox) is an asset
  • Discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive client financial information

WHY WORK AT AUGUST

  • Competitive compensation that recognizes your contributions and impact
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits because your well-being matters
  • A rewarding retirement savings program to help you build for the future with confidence
  • Flexible vacation and time-off policies that support balance, rest, and personal priorities
  • Ongoing investment in your growth through learning opportunities, professional development, and career advancement support, including support towards the CFP designation
  • A defined development path towards a client relationship manager role
