About Aurora Fluid Systems
Aurora Fluid Systems is a Calgary-based aerospace company developing lightweight fluid-control hardware and custom fluid systems for launch vehicles, spacecraft, and defence platforms.
We work on multidisciplinary engineering problems spanning mechanical design, fluid dynamics, structural analysis, manufacturing, and testing. Our small team moves quickly, works closely with customers, and gives engineers meaningful ownership over the hardware they develop. By working with us, you’ll be supporting our efforts to strengthen Canada’s sovereign industrial base.
The Role
AFS is seeking mechanical engineers for current and future opportunities within our product-development team. We are particularly interested in practical engineering generalists who can contribute across multiple stages of development from early concepts and analysis through detailed design, manufacturing, testing, and design improvement.
The successful candidate will support the development of high-performance valves and fluid system hardware. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys solving challenging technical problems, integrating across engineering disciplines, and seeing their designs progress into manufactured and tested hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical designs for valves, fluid-control components, test equipment, and related aerospace hardware.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
- Perform structural, thermal, fluid, and mechanical analyses using analytical methods, FEA, CFD, and proprietary engineering tools.
- Evaluate product requirements and translate them into practical design and verification activities.
- Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles in collaboration with internal and external manufacturing partners.
- Plan and support prototype assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and design iteration.
- Analyze test data and compare product performance against engineering requirements.
- Contribute to internal design tools, engineering standards, documentation, and quality processes.
- Communicate directly with customers, suppliers, and other members of the engineering team as required.
- Take ownership of technical work and help move projects from initial requirements through delivery.
Note: Due to the nature of Aurora's work, this position may require access to controlled goods and technical information. The successful candidate may therefore be required to complete security screening and meet applicable Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and export-control requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience and technical capability.
- Proven hands-on abilities through demonstrated project work.
- Strong mechanical design and CAD capabilities.
- Experience applying engineering analysis to real components or systems.
- Familiarity with FEA, CFD, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, material selection, and testing methodology.
- Ability to produce clear engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Ability to manage priorities and work effectively within a small, fast-moving team.
What We Value
We place value on engineering generalists who can demonstrate meaningful project work across several aspects of engineering. Experience gained through professional work, student design teams, personal projects, research, or hands-on technical programs is very relevant to our assessment of you as a candidate.
Direct aerospace experience is preferred but not required. We are more interested in strong engineering fundamentals, practical design judgment, adaptability, and demonstrated ownership of technical projects.
Working at Aurora
AFS offers the opportunity to work directly on commercial aerospace hardware within a collaborative, early-stage engineering environment. Team members have significant decision-making authority and can contribute across product design, analysis, manufacturing, testing, and company development. As a growing company, we actively seek and value feedback from every member of our team. Employees are encouraged to identify opportunities for improvement, challenge existing approaches, and help shape the tools, processes, products, and practices we use as Aurora continues to grow.
As part of working at Aurora, we currently offer the following benefits:
· Flexible working environment that values your preferred working schedule.
· Group health and dental benefits available following the probationary period, with additional benefits as the company grows.
Pre-Screening Questions (please include in email application):
Are you legally authorized to work in Canada? Yes / No
Are you currently located in Calgary, or willing to relocate to Calgary for this position? Yes / No
Are you willing to undergo security and background screening if required for access to controlled goods, technical data, or customer programs? Yes / No
How to Apply
Because this is a rolling posting, applications may be reviewed as new projects and hiring needs emerge. Candidates whose experience aligns with an upcoming position may be contacted for further discussion.
Please submit:
- An updated resume or CV
- Cover letter (optional)
- A portfolio or selected examples of relevant design and engineering projects (optional)
