Combining our deep technical expertise with a 30-year track record, we deliver innovative, value-add consulting studies, project delivery, asset operations and maintenance solutions to the mining & metals, oil & gas, and industrial sectors.
We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Project Engineer to support engineering execution and site construction activities for mining and minerals projects. Based in the office, this role will serve as a key link between multidisciplinary engineering teams, project management, construction personnel, and site-based stakeholders to ensure engineering deliverables are effectively coordinated and successfully implemented in the field.
The successful candidate will facilitate the resolution of technical issues, coordinate engineering and construction interfaces, monitor design progress, and provide timely technical support to site teams throughout project execution. This position is ideal for an engineer with experience in mining and minerals projects who understands both engineering design and practical construction requirements.
About The Role
- Coordinate engineering activities across multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and process engineering.
- Review engineering deliverables, drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation for completeness, consistency, and constructability.
- Facilitate communication between engineering disciplines to resolve design interfaces, technical discrepancies, and project execution issues.
- Monitor engineering progress and identify potential impacts on construction schedules, procurement activities, and project milestones.
- Support the development and review of technical scopes, design packages, engineering change requests, and project documentation.
- Act as the primary engineering liaison between the office-based engineering team and site construction personnel.
- Provide timely technical clarification and support to resolve site queries, Requests for Information (RFIs), and field engineering issues.
- Coordinate the preparation, review, and issuance of responses to construction-related technical queries.
- Review proposed field changes and deviations from design, coordinating the required technical assessments and approvals.
- Support constructability reviews, construction planning, and the identification of potential design-related risks before and during site execution.
- Participate in site progress meetings, technical coordination meetings, and construction reviews as required.
- Assist with resolving design conflicts, discrepancies between drawings and site conditions, and other technical challenges affecting construction progress.
- Coordinate the incorporation of approved field changes and as-built information into engineering documentation.
- Work closely with the Project Manager, Engineering Manager, Construction Manager, and discipline leads to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective project delivery.
- Monitor engineering deliverables and outstanding technical issues that may affect construction sequencing, schedule, cost, or quality.
- Maintain registers for RFIs, technical queries, engineering changes, and other project engineering activities.
- Support project reporting by providing updates on engineering progress, technical risks, outstanding actions, and construction support requirements.
- Assist with identifying scope changes, potential delays, and technical issues that may affect project budgets or schedules.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable codes, standards, project specifications, quality requirements, and health and safety expectations.
- Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring engineering solutions consider construction safety, operational requirements, and site conditions.
- Support quality assurance and quality control processes, including the review and resolution of technical non-conformances.
- Ensure engineering documentation is managed in accordance with project procedures and document control requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering coordination, constructability, and the interface between office and site teams.
- Support commissioning, handover, and closeout activities as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in a relevant discipline, such as Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada is preferred.
- Typically 5–8 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably within the mining and minerals industry or other heavy industrial sectors.
- Experience working on mining, mineral processing, infrastructure, or industrial capital projects in an EPCM, EPC, or owner’s project environment.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating engineering activities and providing technical support to construction teams.
- Strong understanding of engineering design, construction methodologies, constructability, and multidisciplinary interfaces.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, technical specifications, design packages, and construction documentation.
- Familiarity with RFIs, technical queries, field change management, non-conformance reports, and engineering change control.
- Knowledge of applicable Canadian engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience supporting projects through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, or handover phases is an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with engineering document management and project controls systems.
- Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent coordination, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to bridge the gap between engineering design and practical site construction requirements.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a project-driven environment.
- Proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
