Original job description

Are You Driven to Win New Business?

Do you see opportunity where others see obstacles? Do you enjoy the challenge of opening doors, building relationships and turning a prospect into a loyal customer?

Auto Electric Service (AES) is looking for a motivated, tenacious and results-driven Business Development Partner to help accelerate our growth throughout Weyburn, Estevan and the surrounding region.

We're not looking for someone who simply maintains an existing customer list. We're looking for someone who actively pursues opportunities, isn't afraid to make the first call, thrives on challenges and takes pride in winning business through exceptional service.

You'll have the opportunity to grow our presence across the Agriculture, Industrial and Automotive sectors, develop meaningful customer partnerships and play an important role in the next chapter of Auto Electric Service's growth.

If you're competitive, self-motivated and enjoy being out in the field making things happen, we want to hear from you.

Company Overview

Founded in 1943, Auto Electric Service is one of Saskatchewan's largest locally owned and operated automotive parts distributors, proudly serving the automotive aftermarket, agricultural, industrial, heavy-duty and retail sectors throughout Southern Saskatchewan.

Our success has been built on strong relationships, industry expertise, dependable service and a commitment to finding solutions for our customers. With a growing distribution network, investments in technology and inventory capabilities, and an ambitious vision for the future, AES is entering an exciting stage of growth.

We believe in being Solution Focused, Customer Experience Obsessed, Humbly Confident and keeping our Foot on the Accelerator.

Position Summary

The Business Development Partner is responsible for driving profitable sales growth by identifying, pursuing and securing new customers while building strong, lasting relationships with existing accounts.

This is a highly independent, field-focused position where new business development is the primary measure of success.

Working closely with the Director of Business Development - Agriculture & Industrial, the Weyburn/Estevan team and our broader sales organization, you will identify opportunities, understand customer operations, recommend solutions and convert prospects into long-term AES customers.

You'll represent AES throughout the region, connecting with agricultural producers and businesses, industrial operations, repair facilities, fleet operators and other commercial customers.

You'll be more than a salesperson. You'll be a trusted business partner who understands what customers need and takes ownership of delivering results.

Requirements

New Business Development & Customer Acquisition

Your primary focus: find opportunities and turn them into business.

Proactively identify, prospect and pursue new business opportunities throughout Weyburn, Estevan and surrounding communities.
Consistently conduct cold calls, in-person visits and prospecting activities to establish relationships with potential customers
Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified prospects across the Agriculture, Industrial and Automotive sectors.
Identify key decision-makers, understand purchasing needs and develop strategies to win their business.
Convert prospects into active, repeat-purchasing customers through consistent follow-up and solution-based selling.
Demonstrate persistence, creativity and determination when overcoming objections and competitive barriers.

Customer Relationships & Account Growth - Earn trust, deliver value and become the supplier customers want to work with.

Develop lasting relationships with existing customers through regular contact, dependable follow-through and exceptional service.
Identify opportunities to increase customer purchases, introduce additional product categories and grow AES's share of business.
Understand each customer's operation, challenges, purchasing patterns and future requirements.
Respond promptly to customer concerns and work collaboratively with internal teams to deliver solutions.
Build customer loyalty through integrity, reliability and a genuine commitment to their success.

Market Development & Product Opportunities - Know your territory, recognize opportunities and help AES grow.

Develop a strong understanding of the agricultural, industrial and automotive businesses operating throughout the territory.
Identify underserved markets, competitor weaknesses and emerging customer needs.
Gather insights about product demand, seasonal purchasing patterns and potential new product opportunities.
Collaborate with the Director of Business Development and Product teams to identify products and solutions that will help AES win new customers.
Represent AES professionally at customer locations, industry events and relevant business networking opportunities.

Sales Execution & Profitable Growth - Activity matters. Results matter more.

Take ownership of achieving individual sales growth, new customer acquisition and gross profit objectives.
Maintain an organized and active sales pipeline with clear next steps and consistent follow-up.
Prepare customer proposals, quotations and account development plans.
Use CRM and sales reporting tools to document opportunities, activities and results.
Understand pricing, profitability and the importance of generating sustainable business.
Manage your territory effectively, prioritizing activities that produce measurable results.
Collaborate with store, purchasing, logistics and customer service teams to ensure commitments to customers are consistently met.

Key Performance Indicators

Success in this role will be measured through a combination of sales activity, customer acquisition, profitable growth and relationship development. Key measures will include:

New Customers Acquired: Number of new, active, purchasing customers.
New Business Revenue: Sales generated from newly acquired customers.
Gross Profit Growth: Profitable sales growth within the assigned territory.
Qualified Sales Pipeline: Number and value of active new business opportunities.
Prospecting Activity: New customer contacts, cold calls, appointments and follow-up activity.
Customer Conversion: Progression of qualified prospects into repeat-purchasing customers.
Existing Customer Growth & Retention: Increased purchasing activity and strong customer relationships.

Specific targets will be established with the Director of Business Development.

Core Competencies

Relentless Drive & Determination

You are self-motivated, persistent and energized by achieving ambitious goals. Rejection doesn't discourage you; it motivates you to find another approach.

Confident Prospecting & Business Development

You are comfortable introducing yourself, opening conversations, making cold calls and building relationships from the ground up.

Relationship Building & Customer Focus

You build trust, listen carefully and understand that exceptional customer experiences are essential to long-term success.

Accountability & Follow-Through

You take ownership of your commitments, manage your time effectively and consistently deliver on what you promise.

Problem Solving & Adaptability

You enjoy challenges, think creatively and find practical solutions that benefit both customers and AES.

Qualifications & Experience

Proven success in outside sales, business development, territory management or relationship-based business-to-business sales.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to prospect, cold call and secure new customers.
Experience or knowledge in Agriculture, Industrial, Automotive, Heavy-Duty, Fleet or related sectors is a strong asset.
Established business relationships throughout Weyburn, Estevan and the surrounding region would be an advantage.
Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
Comfortable working independently and managing a territory with minimal day-to-day supervision.
Ability to learn technical products and translate customer needs into practical solutions.
Strong organizational skills and comfort using CRM, Microsoft Office and other sales tools.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.

Above all, we're looking for attitude, initiative and a proven desire to succeed. Industry experience is valuable, but determination, coachability and the ability to build relationships are equally important.

Our AES Core Values

Our values aren't just words. They guide how we work, how we treat customers and how we hold ourselves accountable.

SOLUTION FOCUSED - We don't dwell on problems. We solve them! You approach obstacles with curiosity, creativity and a commitment to finding the best solution.

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE OBSESSED - Every interaction matters! You recognize that exceptional service builds customer loyalty and creates opportunities for future business.

HUMBLY CONFIDENT - We are experts who never stop learning! You bring confidence to customer interactions while remaining open to feedback, learning and continuous improvement.
