At Avalon Holographics, we’re developing technology that helps people understand complex systems and solve real-world problems!

We’re building advanced holographic visualization systems that combine optics, hardware, and software to enable shared, real-time 3D understanding of complex data across industries such as healthcare and defense, without the use of headsets or glasses.

As we advance our display technology, we’re seeking a Device Design Engineer to help design and optimize the thin-film transistor (TFT) pixel and panel architectures at the core of our holographic displays. Working with our Edmonton-based display development team, you’ll contribute to the design, simulation, layout, and optimization of advanced pixel circuits while helping solve complex engineering challenges.

This is a highly technical role for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and wants to contribute directly to the development of next-generation display technology.

What You’ll Do

Collaborate with the display development team across frontplane, backplane, and silicon analog device engineering to design and optimize advanced pixel circuits.
Work closely with TFT, pixel circuit, and OLED designers to develop layouts and perform detailed performance analysis against system-level requirements.
Design and optimize the layout of electrical, optical, and through-silicon via (TSV) substrate components, with consideration for parasitic effects, device stress, process variation, and component integration.
Perform circuit simulation and analysis to evaluate device and pixel performance and support design optimization.
Conduct research and development to solve emerging device and display design challenges and explore new approaches to pixel and panel architecture.
Propose design, simulation, and verification strategies to support robust, high-quality designs.
Document design features, assumptions, simulation results, and key testbench metrics to track performance.
Ensure analog block performance meets device, panel, and broader system-level requirements.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline; a Master’s or PhD is preferred.
Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles and analog circuit design.
Proficiency in SPICE simulations to model, analyze, and optimize circuits.
Experience creating layouts for non-CMOS, thin-film, or emerging semiconductor technologies.
Knowledge and experience in parasitic parameter extraction and its application to circuit and layout optimization.
Ability to analyze complex technical problems, evaluate design trade-offs, and translate system requirements into practical device-level solutions.
Comfort working collaboratively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Strong technical documentation and communication skills.

Nice to Have

Experience with TFT pixel circuit design, modeling, or characterization.
Experience defining or designing TFT panel architectures.
Understanding of display driving concepts and how they apply to TFT panels.
Familiarity with thin-film transistors and panel fabrication processes.
Experience with circuit simulation, optimization, and design verification methodologies.
Understanding of colour science and its application in display technologies.
Experience working in R&D, deep-tech, semiconductor, or other highly technical product development environments.
