Original job description

Avia NG Airport Consultants represents the NextGen in airport consulting and brings together a unique team of experienced engineers, project managers, technologists and pilots that share a passion for airports and aviation. We take pride in creating and fostering a work environment where each person is treated as an individual and not a number. This passion motivates and drives us to deliver timely, high quality and innovative services to our clients and business partners.

We like to think this has been the reason we’ve been growing so rapidly, because our employees are just as important as our clients. We treat all with integrity and foster transparency in our work - this is what fuels our success.

The home base for this role is in Calgary and involves frequent extended travel and on-site project work in the Caribbean. However, for the right individual, we would consider our Southampton, Ontario office as an alternative home-base.

What are the perks?

Working with us of course!

As awesome as we are, we also make sure you’re well compensated and rewarded for your performance with bonuses and profit sharing.

Is that all? Absolutely not, mediocre is not an option for us.

We offer:

  • RRSP - Company matching contribution
  • 100% Company paid benefits
  • Opportunities for growth and development
  • Hybrid work policy and flexible hours

Why are we hiring?

We are growing and growing fast! We are adding to our ranks to create a great work life balance for all.

What does a typical day look like for our Senior Project Managers?

Senior Project Managers at Avia NG are the central hub and manage projects from start to finish. Working closely with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams, you will oversee projects from concept through commissioning while ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, budget control, and schedule performance.

The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for managing project delivery, contract administration, stakeholder coordination, quality assurance, and client relationships, while also providing mentorship to junior team members and supporting business development initiatives.

Your day may start in our Calgary office, however often our Senior Project Managers travel to our various sites within the Caribbean and Canada to conduct business as well.

This role is well suited for a motivated professional who thrives in dynamic environments, values collaboration, and is passionate about delivering innovative solutions that support the future of airports and aviation.

What do we need from you?

Our ideal candidate is a proactive, client-focused engineering professional with strong hands-on experience in civil and/or airfield design, combined with proven project management and leadership skills.

  • This role requires hands-on experience preparing civil and/or airfield engineering design work, such as calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Provide technical oversight and leadership for the planning, design, and construction of airport and airfield infrastructure projects.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in the delivery of complex engineering assignments.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of engineering designs, specifications, calculations, reports, and construction documentation.
  • Evaluate technical challenges and develop innovative, practical solutions for airfield and airport infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project team members throughout all phases of project delivery.

Project Delivery

  • Manage projects through the full lifecycle, including planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Develop and monitor project budgets, schedules, work plans, and resource allocations.
  • Oversee contract administration activities, including progress payment reviews, change orders, shop drawing reviews, site instructions, and commissioning inspections.
  • Coordinate project activities among clients, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct site inspections and monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents, design intent, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Prepare project status reports, cost forecasts, schedule updates, risk assessments, and executive-level project summaries.
  • Support operational planning to minimize impacts to active airport operations during project execution.

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Support the professional development of team members through training, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment focused on quality and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with workload planning and resource coordination across project teams.

  • Strong understanding of airport planning, airfield design, civil infrastructure, grading, drainage, earthworks, and construction methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of Transport Canada, NAV CANADA, IATA, ASSI, ECCAA, and other relevant aviation design standards and recommended practices.
  • Thorough understanding of construction contract administration and project delivery methodologies.
  • Knowledge of engineering design software and project management tools, including AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with airport operational requirements and stakeholder coordination within active airfield environments.
  • Understanding of quality management principles and engineering review processes.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing or eligibility for registration in Alberta.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of progressive experience in civil infrastructure, aviation, transportation, or airport engineering projects.
  • PMP designation considered a strong asset.
  • Previous airport or airfield infrastructure experience strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • Ability to travel internationally to Caribbean project sites for extended assignments
  • Candidates must hold a valid passport and be legally eligible to work in Canada.
