Original job description

Experience Aviva

Together, we are Aviva. Our values - Care, Commitment, Community, and Confidence - guide how we show up for each other and for our customers. Individually, they’re words. Together, they define who we are.

At Aviva Canada, we put people first, our employees, our customers, and our communities. We’re proud of a culture built on care, inclusion, and collaboration, where your voice matters and your growth is supported. We’re not just about insurance; we’re about making a real difference by protecting what matters most.

The Opportunity

Actuaries typically work behind the scenes to make processes run smoothly and deliver insights as inputs to other processes. But what if you were given the opportunity to work directly with the operations and influence how we operate? To work with pace, contribute to meaningful, value-adding projects, and help shape the way we work as a company?

Aviva Canada is looking for a Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our Claims Analytics team within Finance. The applicant will work in a dynamic environment and gain exposure across a broad spectrum of actuarial and data science disciplines, while also working directly with the business and the operations.

Does this excite you? Read on!

What You’ll Do

Build, clean, transform and analyze operational Claims data, tying with financial results to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Deliver insights and recommendations to optimize claims operations and influence Claims initiatives.
Automate workflow in our data science platform to increase efficiency and ensure accuracy.
Identify opportunities to accurately pay what we owe in claims indemnity and reduce expense to drive better financial results.
Conduct competitive analysis by benchmarking our performance against the industry and identify areas where we can gain competitive advantage.
Collaborate and build close relationships with company-wide partners in various departments, including Claims, Corporate Actuarial, Pricing, Data Science, Underwriting and Risk.

What You’ll Bring

Degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or related field.
Actively pursuing actuarial exams with minimum of 3-5 exams completed.
Strong team player who is also able to work independently.
Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Excellent work ethic with a commitment to delivering results.
Strong analytic and problem-solving skills with the ability to work through the technical implementation details while appreciating the big picture.

What Makes You Stand Out

Proficient in Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of Python and SQL

What You’ll Get

The salary band for this position ranges from $90,000 to $110,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
Compelling rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunities.
Hybrid flexible work model.
Outstanding career development opportunities.
We’ll support your professional development education.
Competitive vacation package with the option to purchase 5 extra days off per year.
Employee-driven programs focused on gender, LGBTQ+, origins, diversity, and inclusion.
Corporate wellness programs to support our employees’ physical and mental health.

This job advertisement is for an existing vacancy which has been posted both internally & externally.
