Original job description

This is your opportunity to join AXIS Capital – a trusted global provider of specialty lines insurance and reinsurance. We stand apart for our outstanding client service, intelligent risk taking and superior risk adjusted returns for our shareholders. We also proudly maintain an entrepreneurial, disciplined and ethical corporate culture. As a member of AXIS, you join a team that is among the best in the industry.

At AXIS, we believe that we are only as strong as our people. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming culture where employees of all backgrounds and from all walks of life feel comfortable and empowered to be themselves. This means that we bring our whole selves to work.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to any protected characteristic, including age, color, disability, ethnicity, gender identity, marital status, national origin, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any basis prohibited by the laws that govern its operations.

The Data Insights Analyst will help Global Markets colleagues make better, faster decisions by turning complex data into clear, useful insights and intuitive analytical products. Working closely with both the Data & Analytics (D&A) and Global Markets (GM) teams, you will seek to understand their priorities, ask thoughtful questions and identify where data can make the greatest difference. You will contribute to both the design and delivery of dashboards, AI agents / agentic solutions, broad analytical tools and reporting solutions that address genuine business needs.

This is an opportunity for someone who is naturally curious, enjoys learning how a global specialty insurance business works, and wants to develop both their technical capability and commercial understanding. You will be encouraged to explore ideas, seek feedback and take ownership of your development while delivering work that makes a visible difference.

What you will do

  • Design, prototype and deliver intuitive Power BI dashboards, analytical tools, AI agents, self-serve capabilities and reporting solutions that produce actionable insight.
  • Translate complex or initially ambiguous business questions into clear analytical requirements and practical data solutions.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve decision-making, automate inefficient processes and make information easier to access and understand.
  • Test and validate solutions to ensure outputs are accurate, reliable, performant and fit for purpose.
  • Investigate data quality issues, explain their business impact and work with relevant teams to improve data quality and governance.
  • Support and enhance existing analytical products, responding constructively to feedback and changing business priorities.
  • Collaborate effectively across the D&A organisation, building strong relationships across Insights, Engineering, Data Science, AI, Governance and Quality sub-teams.
  • Share knowledge, contribute ideas and help the team improve its tools, standards and ways of working.
  • Build a strong understanding of Global Markets’ business priorities, processes, performance measures and data.
  • Develop trusted relationships with business users and use thoughtful questioning to uncover the decisions, problems and opportunities behind their requests.
  • Take ownership of your development by seeking feedback, building your knowledge of Global Markets and developing new technical, analytical and commercial skills.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone who combines analytical capability with curiosity, initiative and a desire to make a difference.

Essential capabilities

  • Experience using Power BI to develop dashboards, analytical tools or reports that solve business problems.
  • The ability to analyse data and write effective SQL queries.
  • Either through experience (or a keen willingness to learn), explore and develop agentic solutions using MS Copilot Studio, MS Fabric and Databricks to improve analysis and ways of working.
  • An understanding of how to examine data structure, content, lineage and quality.
  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to move from an initially ambiguous question to a clear, useful outcome.
  • A curious mindset and the confidence to ask constructive questions, challenge assumptions and explore how the business works.
  • The ability to explain complex information simply.
  • A collaborative approach, alongside the initiative and judgement to progress work independently.
  • Attention to detail without losing sight of the wider business objective.
  • A commitment to continuous learning, feedback and self-development.

Desirable experience

  • Experience in insurance, reinsurance, specialty markets or financial services.
  • Experience of Databricks or a comparable modern data platform.

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $75,000 to $90,000 CAD. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.

In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance. On top of this, you will be eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package which includes medical plans for you and your family, health and wellness programs, retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation, and much more.
