Axxcelus is an advisory firm based in Calgary, Alberta that works with Indigenous communities and governments, industry, and public-sector organizations across Western Canada. We advise on business performance, governance, commercial partnerships, and community ownership and investment opportunities.
The Role
We are hiring for an Advisor, Economic Development to join our team. This role puts you inside the decisions facing Indigenous governments and businesses: how to strengthen an enterprise, assess a partnership, evaluate an investment, or participate in a major project.
We are looking for an experienced professional who can build trusted working relationships, assess financial and business information, and turn that work into clear recommendations. You will take responsibility for assigned parts of advisory engagements from initial research through to recommendations and implementation support.
Responsibilities
- Assess governance, administration, and business operations through document review, interviews, and engagement sessions with community leadership, staff, and leaders of community-owned businesses
- Review financial statements, budgets, business plans, and operational information. Explain the findings and identify risks, gaps, and provide recommendations
- Support the evaluation of partnerships and equity participation opportunities, including due diligence and coordination with other advisors
- Plan and facilitate engagement sessions with Indigenous communities, industry, and government.
- Prepare reports, presentations, business cases, and recommendations for community leadership, boards, and executives
- Streamline the firm’s methods, templates, and AI-enabled workflows.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience working in consulting, finance, and/or Indigenous economic development
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, governments, or businesses is required
- Ability to interpret financial and organizational information and identify questions and defensible recommendations
- Willingness to travel up to 20% within Alberta and British Columbia. A valid driver's licence is required.
- Demonstrated ability to use AI tools, including information verification and confidential handing of client information
What we Offer
- Hybrid work arrangements, at least 3 days in office
- Salary range $90,000-$135,000 + annual bonus, depending on experience
- 3-4 weeks vacation, depending on experience
- Benefits provided after 3-month probationary period.
