Four paid contracts for people living in Atlantic Canada, British Columbia and the North, Ontario or the Prairies.

Applications open until Friday, October 16, 2026, 11:59 pm Pacific time. Contract November 2, 2026, to March 31, 2027. $30,000 CAD, about 25 hours a week. With the support of the Canada Media Fund.

Baby Ghosts helps small studios and collectives in games and media arts set up as worker cooperatives, so that they own their work and their business. We've done that with more than 90 creators across 30 studios since 2021, and we're a registered Canadian charity.

A hub is the engine that makes that happen in one of four regions across Canada. What is needed is a partnership of local organizations, Peer Supports trained to run the weekly sessions, cohorts of studios going through the program together, and a toolkit of the region's own resources. Each one needs a coordinator who lives in the region.

This is a build job in a tight five months. The contract runs November 2, 2026, to March 31, 2027, at a fixed fee, and ends when the grant that funds it ends. After that the hub carries on with its partner organizations, but the contract doesn't. What you build is what the region keeps.

THE FOUR POSITIONS

Each role has the same fee and hours: $30,000 ($6,000 a month), about 25 hours a week, which works out to about $55 an hour. It's a contract for services, not employment: you're self-employed, you work with your own equipment on your own schedule around the deliverables and the calls, and you look after your own taxes, CPP and any GST/HST. No benefits come with it.

Each hub has a hub city, where the meeting space is, and a region it covers. You can live anywhere in the region; when the work needs you in the hub city in person, we cover the travel.

Atlantic, Halifax. Covers the Maritime provinces and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Pacific/North, Vancouver. Covers British Columbia, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Ontario, Toronto. Covers Ontario.

Prairies, Edmonton. Covers Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You're putting the hub's infrastructure in place fast, so all of this might be happening simultaneously:

Set up the hub: physical meeting space, a regional communication system and a resource package, with a setup budget

Map the region: the studios, organizations and people to loop in, including outside the hub city

Bring people into the Peer Support network. In the Atlantic, Ontario and Pacific/North hubs, recruit local Peer Support trainees and take them through the December and January training. In the Prairies, support the Peer Supports already running studios

Build a list of studios ready for the region's next cohort, so the partners start with applicants

Set up tracking for the region and keep the record as you go: who takes part, which studios you reach, and what happens for them after

Write the regional toolkit: provincial and territorial incorporation and tax incentive processes, local resources, and our material adapted to the region's own barriers

Build the partnership that carries the hub after March: at least three local organizations, with agreements signed by handoff. We have warm leads in all regions, so you're not starting from scratch

Hand the hub over by the end of March, with everything the partners need to keep it running

What's due when:

November: hub set up, regional map done, partner conversations under way

December: trainees identified and started on training

January: live training done, partners confirmed

February: toolkit published, partnership agreements drafted

March: agreements signed, studio list, tracking record and handoff done

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

You report to the co-executive directors. The four coordinators and the co-executive directors meet once a week, and you have your own check-in every two weeks, or whenever you need it. Scheduling, documentation and funder paperwork across the four hubs are handled by our Hub Network producer, so that isn't on you. Nobody in your region is handing you work. You get the list above, the calls, and a lot of room!

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Three things are conditions of the role:

You live in the region, and you can travel to the hub city when the work needs you there in person. We cover the travel

You're legally able to work in Canada as a contractor

You can give this about 25 hours a week from November 2 to March 31

And this is what we're looking for:

You know your region's games or arts community, or you're a co-op developer, or you've built a network somewhere else from nothing and can do it again. Games or co-op experience is a head start. Any one of those three is enough.

You're comfortable reaching out to people who don't know you yet, by email, by phone and in person, and following up until something happens. Most of this job is that.

You start things without being asked

You've taken a partner conversation through to something signed, or you can see yourself doing it

You're organized in the way a running program needs, and you keep records as you go

You work well on your own, across a time zone gap

You don't need co-op experience. You don't need to have made a game either. If you have the three conditions and can see yourself in most of the rest, apply.

Baby Ghosts works with creators who are marginalized in games. We especially want to hear from people who are part of those communities in their region: Indigenous, Black and racialized, women and gender-diverse, 2SLGBTQ+, disabled, and rural or remote creators.

The form asks what you'd need from us for the call or to do this well. It's optional and it doesn't affect selection.

HOW WE CHOOSE

Every application is read in full, against three things, with a comment beside every score: what you know about your region and who you'd need to meet, whether you go to people who don't know you and follow up, and whether you start without being told. If we'd like to talk, the call is about 45 minutes by video.
