What You Need To Know
You will join the Data and Digital Services (DDS) Department and report to the Assistant Director, Data Science. As a hands-on AI expert who thrives in a collaborative, experimentation-driven environment, you will design, build, and deliver end-to-end AI and data science solutions that support AI-focused projects and services across the Bank of Canada. Your work will enable economists and policy teams to access high-quality data, deploy trusted and well-governed models, strengthen analytical tools and processes, and translate insights into real policy impact.
In this role, you directly support the Bank’s core mandate to maintain low and stable inflation and ensure a resilient, efficient financial system.
What You Will Do
You will design and deliver end-to-end AI and machine learning (ML) solutions within the Bank of Canada's technology ecosystem. Working closely with business partners and multidisciplinary teams, you will develop a deep understanding of business needs and transform them into scalable, secure, and responsible AI capabilities that create measurable value.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership in the design and evolution of AI architectures, helping establish enterprise patterns, standards, and practices that enable AI solutions to scale across the Bank’s policy and research departments. You will ensure AI solutions are effectively integrated, governed, and operated across the Bank’s technology platforms while driving innovation and promoting best practices in AI architecture and delivery.
You will also maintain an active hands-on role in the development and implementation of AI solutions, collaborating with technical teams to translate architectural vision into production-ready capabilities and ensuring solutions deliver sustainable business value.
- Architect, design, and implement AI/ML solutions : Design, build, and implement AI and ML solutions that meet business and technical requirements across platforms such as Azure and Databricks. You will develop scalable architectures, AI orchestration capabilities, and integration patterns that align with the Bank's technology strategy while delivering performance, security, and business value.
- Deliver Trusted AI Services for Policy and Research : Provide and evolve AI services that enable the Bank’s policy and research communities to leverage advanced analytics, ML, and generative AI effectively and responsibly. You will champion governance frameworks, architectural best practices, and model oversight capabilities to ensure solutions are secure, interoperable, scalable, and aligned with the Bank’s strategic objectives.
- Drive innovation and technical leadership : Evaluate emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and methodologies to identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement. You will help shape the Bank's AI direction through technology roadmaps, architectural guidance, and knowledge-sharing initiatives that strengthen organizational expertise.
- Lead solution delivery from concept to operations : Oversee the full lifecycle of AI initiatives, from discovery and architectural design through development, deployment, and operational transition. You will provide technical leadership to ensure solutions are delivered effectively and are positioned for long-term sustainability.
- Partner with stakeholders to deliver business value : Collaborate closely with data scientists, engineers, technology partners, and business lines to understand needs, define solutions, and drive successful outcomes. You will translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations, communicate roadmaps and strategies, and ensure AI investments deliver measurable business impact.
- Promote responsible AI practices : Embed responsible AI principles into solution design by ensuring appropriate levels of explainability, traceability, reproducibility, and human oversight. You will help ensure AI capabilities are developed and deployed in a manner that is transparent, reliable, and aligned with the Bank's governance requirements.
What You Need To Succeed
- Extensive experience architecting and delivering enterprise-scale AI/ML solutions using platforms such as Azure, Databricks, and Foundry.
- Strong expertise in AI/ML engineering, including Python or R development, Git-based workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and MLOps/DevOps practices.
- Experience designing AI orchestration solutions, agent-based systems, and integrations using standards and protocols such as MCP.
- Deep understanding of AI architecture, governance, responsible AI principles, and operational considerations including security, scalability, explainability, model validation, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, influence stakeholders, communicate technical concepts effectively, and drive business outcomes.
- Curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, combined with a passion for coaching and knowledge sharing.

Education And Experience
The position requires a master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or a related discipline, and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in applied AI/ML solution design and architecture. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. Hybrid Work Model
The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a portion of each month as part of the Bank’s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $111,051 to $130,649 (job grade 17)
- The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
