Sun Pointe Village | Kelowna, British Columbia | Temporary Part-Time (15 hours/week)

The Opportunity

At Baptist Housing, every day is an opportunity for you to help our seniors experience life well in supportive communities. As a Social Worker at Sun Pointe Village, you’ll be a valued member of a multidisciplinary care team, advocating for residents, supporting families, and contributing to a compassionate environment where each person is treated with dignity and respect.

About The Role

  • This position is 15 hours per week, typically worked over two days (Tuesdays and Thursdays), with shifts from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In this role, you’ll support the psychosocial needs of residents while fostering a collaborative, wellness-focused environment. You’ll provide counselling, advocacy, and care planning support to ensure each resident receives holistic, person-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

Resident & Family Support

  • Assess resident psychosocial needs and contribute to individualized care plans.
  • Provide adjustment counselling, one-to-one visits, crisis intervention, and emotional support.
  • Facilitate Resident Care Conferences and support residents and families during transitions, including move-in, transfer, or end-of-service planning.
  • Assist residents and families in navigating financial or material assistance programs as needed.

Program Leadership

  • Model and promote Baptist Housing’s Wellness Model of Care.
  • Facilitate resident and family councils, support groups, and educational sessions.
  • Provide leadership as a member of the Administrative Team, supporting residence-wide initiatives.
  • Participate in policy review and revision, quality improvement, and data collection activities.

Collaboration & Advocacy

  • Work closely with residents, families, team members, and community agencies such as Community Care, the Public Guardian and Trustee, and disease-specific organizations.
  • Collaborate with other social workers across the Kelowna region to support consistency and workload relief.

Health, Safety & Professional Practice

  • Promote a safe and healthy workplace, identifying hazards and supporting safe practices.
  • Integrate evidence-based research into practice and maintain awareness of legislative and program changes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professional ethics in all interactions.

Sun Pointe Village is located in the heart of Kelowna’s Rutland community, an inviting residential neighborhood with convenient access to services, parks, and amenities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (BSW) required; Master of Social Work (MSW) preferred.
  • The candidate must be registered in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers.
  • Minimum one year of experience providing services to seniors, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • You possess a robust understanding of gerontology and the psychosocial requirements of older adults.

About You

You are a compassionate, resident-centered professional who builds trust with ease. You bring:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strengths in counselling, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution.
  • A collaborative spirit rooted in Servant Leadership.
  • Strong documentation, assessment, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Confidence working independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to supporting residents with empathy, dignity, and respect.

You model Baptist Housing’s values of Compassion, Honesty, Respect, Innovation, Stewardship, Teamwork, Fun, and Servant Leadership in all that you do.
