About Barney River

Headquartered in Toronto, Barney River is a trusted real estate investment and property management company focused on creating vibrant, thriving communities, with proud Canadian roots and a forward-thinking approach.

Our mission is simple but powerful: to create and manage high-quality real estate assets that deliver long-term value. Today, our diverse portfolio includes approximately 1,700 multi-residential suites across the Greater Toronto Area and 3,400 hotel guestrooms in major city centres across Canada. We proudly manage our own residential properties and partner with world-class hospitality brands like Hilton Worldwide and Marriott International to ensure exceptional guest experiences in our hotel properties.

Guided by our core values - Trust, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, and Leadership (TRAIL) - we are committed to excellence in everything we do. At Barney River, we value our people, foster collaboration, and encourage continuous growth and improvement.

About The Role

The Accounts Payable Administrator supports the financial operations of the portfolio by managing invoice processing, payment coordination, and vendor records across multi-residential and hospitality assets. This role ensures accurate and timely payment of vendors, strong financial controls, and organized documentation to support reporting and audit requirements.

The position works closely with Property Management, Asset Management, and Finance to ensure expenses are properly coded, approved, and aligned with budget expectations. This is a hands-on, detail-driven role suited for someone organized, accountable, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, lean environment.

What You'll Do

  • Support the Finance team by ensuring timely and accurate monthly reporting across a diverse real estate and hospitality portfolio.
  • Review and process invoices to ensure appropriate coding, authorization, and supporting documentation before payment.
  • Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including vendor communication, reconciliation of discrepancies, and maintenance of accurate records.
  • Perform account reconciliations, analyze aged payables, and prepare necessary accruals and journal entries.
  • Maintain Above Guideline Increase (AGI) binders for all current and historical applications.
  • Track capital expenditures and update the capex tracker, ensuring timely capital reporting for owner-managed hotel projects.
  • Prepare and issue billings to hotels for capital expenditures processed by ownership and reconcile all intercompany balances monthly.
  • Collaborate closely with hotel finance teams to ensure accuracy and alignment between property-level and corporate reporting.
  • Maintain positive relationships with Operations, Finance, and external partners to support seamless financial processes.
  • Assist with Yardi-related initiatives, year-end audits, month-end accounting activities, and other ad hoc requests as required.

What We’re Looking For

  • 2–4 years of experience in accounts payable, accounting administration, or financial operations, ideally within real estate, property management, or hospitality environments.
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of invoice processing workflows, expense coding, and internal financial controls.
  • Ability to review, reconcile, and identify discrepancies across vendor invoices, statements, and supporting documentation.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial/accounting systems; experience with Yardi or similar property management software is a strong asset.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple properties and cost centres simultaneously.

Why You’ll Love It At Barney River

  • Community-Focused - We are committed to creating vibrant and thriving communities where residents feel at home.
  • Autonomy & Ownership - Opportunity to build and improve processes and make a real impact on residential experience.
  • Work-Life Balance - We strive to create a flexible and accommodating work environment.
  • Recognition and Rewards - We believe in recognizing and rewarding the achievements of our employees.
