PROJECT COORDINATOR / SITE ENGINEER (6-month contract)

Location: Quebec City, QC

Project: Orleans Island Bridge (Île d'Orléans Bridge project)

Reports to: Project Manager

Contract Term: 6 months

Shift: 14 days on / 7 off rotating, 12 hours shifts

Rotational travel to the job site is required for this position. Candidate can be located outside of Quebec.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Project Manager, this is a field-focused technical position responsible for day-to-day coordination, quality control, and technical oversight of deep foundation and ground improvement works on active construction sites.

You will work directly alongside drilling crews, superintendents, inspectors, and subcontractors to ensure systems such as micropiles, anchors/tiebacks, shoring, jet grouting, soil mixing (DSM), vibro techniques, and other foundation methods are executed safely, accurately, and in strict accordance with geotechnical design, drawings, and project specifications.

This role is ideal for an engineer who is comfortable in a site environment, enjoys solving real-time field challenges, and has hands-on experience with drilling and foundation operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as the on-site technical advisor for deep foundation and ground improvement activities.
Develop a thorough understanding of project drawings, geotechnical reports, specifications, and scope of work to ensure accurate field execution.
Interpret IFC drawings and contract documents; verify work against design and specifications.
Provide real-time technical support to drilling crews and the Project Manager to resolve subsurface and construction challenges.
Perform inspections of foundation excavations and drilling operations.
Conduct field logging, determination, and classification of encountered soil and rock strata.
Monitor and document installation parameters including drilling depths, grout volumes and pressures, and production data.
Coordinate daily site activities with drill crews, equipment operators, inspectors, testing agencies, and other trades.
Prepare detailed daily construction reports, progress reports, and QA/QC documentation.
Support RFIs, submittals, change orders, and as-built records related to foundation works.
Assist with and coordinate field and material testing including soil, slurry, grout, and concrete.
Track production quantities and material usage to support project cost and schedule reporting.
Collaborate with Engineers, Project Managers, Health & Safety, and Field Operations to maintain a safe and high-quality site environment.
Mentor junior field and technical staff as required.
Other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

Bachelor’s degree in civil or geotechnical engineering.
EIT or P.Eng. designation considered an asset.
2-5 years of field experience on active piling, shoring, anchoring, micropile, drilling, or ground improvement projects.
Strong working knowledge of:
Micropiles, anchors/tiebacks, drilled shafts/caissons, shoring systems
Jet grouting, soil mixing (DSM), vibro techniques, and grouting methods
Soil and rock classification in field conditions
Geotechnical instrumentation and field testing methods
Experience preparing RFIs, submittals, daily reports, and QA/QC documentation.
Comfortable working full-time in an active construction site environment alongside drilling and foundation crews.
Experience with AutoCAD is beneficial
Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with construction documentation and reporting tools.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

PAY RANGE

The pay range for this position is $26.00 – 36.00 per hour, based on experience.

L’OPPORTUNITÉ

Relevant du directeur de projet, vous occuperez un poste technique axé sur le terrain et serez responsable de la coordination quotidienne, du contrôle de la qualité et de la supervision technique des travaux de fondations profondes et d’amélioration des sols sur des chantiers de construction actifs.

Vous travaillerez directement avec les équipes de forage, les surintendants, les inspecteurs et les sous-traitants afin de vous assurer que les systèmes tels que les micropieux, les ancrages et tirants, les systèmes de soutènement, le jet grouting, le mélange profond des sols (DSM), les techniques vibro et autres méthodes de fondation sont exécutés de façon sécuritaire, précise et en stricte conformité avec la conception géotechnique, les plans et les devis du projet.

Ce poste convient parfaitement à un ingénieur à l’aise dans un environnement de chantier, qui apprécie la résolution de problèmes en temps réel et qui possède une expérience pratique des opérations de forage et de fondations.

PRINCIPALES RESPONSABILITÉS

Agir à titre de conseiller technique sur le chantier pour les activités liées aux fondations profondes et à l’amélioration des sols.
Développer une compréhension approfondie des plans du projet, des rapports géotechniques, des devis et de l’étendue des travaux afin d’assurer une exécution précise sur le terrain.
Interpréter les plans émis pour construction (IFC) et les documents contractuels, et vérifier la conformité des travaux avec la conception et les spécifications.
Fournir un soutien technique en temps réel aux équipes de forage et au directeur de projet afin de résoudre les défis liés aux conditions du sous-sol et aux travaux de construction.
Effectuer des inspections des excavations de fondations et des opérations de forage.
Réaliser la description, l’identification et la classification sur le terrain des sols et des formations rocheuses rencontrés.
Surveiller et documenter les paramètres d’installation, notamment les profondeurs de forage, les volumes et pressions de coulis ainsi que les données de production.
Coordonner les activités quotidiennes du chantier avec les équipes de forage, les opérateurs d’équipement, les inspecteurs, les laboratoires d’essais et les autres corps de métier.
Préparer des rapports quotidiens détaillés de construction, des rapports d’avancement et la documentation d’assurance et de contrôle de la qualité (AQ/CQ).
Participer à la préparation et à la coordination des demandes d’information (RFI), des documents de soumission, des ordres de changement et des relevés tels que construits liés aux travaux de fondation.
Participer à la coordination des essais sur le terrain et des matériaux, notamment les essais de sols, de boues, de coulis et de béton.
Effectuer le suivi des quantités produites et de l’utilisation des matériaux afin de soutenir le suivi des coûts et de l’échéancier du projet.
Collaborer avec les ingénieurs, les directeurs de projet, l’équipe de santé et sécurité ainsi que les opérations sur le terrain afin de maintenir un environnement de travail sécuritaire et de haute qualité.
Encadrer les employés techniques et de chantier moins expérimentés, au besoin.
Effectuer toute autre tâche connexe assignée.

LE PROFIL RECHERCHÉ

Baccalauréat en génie civil ou en génie géotechnique.
Le titre d’ingénieur stagiaire (CPI/EIT) ou d’ingénieur professionnel (P.Eng.) constitue un atout.
De 2 à 5 ans d’expérience sur le terrain dans le cadre de projets actifs de pieux, de soutènement, d’ancrages, de micropieux, de forage ou d’amélioration des sols.
Solide connaissance pratique des domaines suivants :
Micropieux, ancrages et tirants, pieux forés et caissons, systèmes de soutènement;
Jet grouting, mélange profond des sols (DSM), techniques vibro et méthodes d’injection;
Classification des sols et des roches dans des conditions de terrain;
Instrumentation géotechnique et méthodes d’essais sur le terrain.
Expérience dans la préparation de demandes d’information (RFI), de documents de soumission, de rapports quotidiens et de documentation d’assurance et de contrôle de la qualité (AQ/CQ).
À l’aise de travailler à temps plein dans un environnement de chantier de construction actif aux côtés des équipes de forage et de fondations.
Une expérience avec AutoCAD constitue un atout.
Excellentes aptitudes en communication, en coordination et en résolution de problèmes.
