Original job description
BAYS Technology Inc. · Burnaby, BC (Metro Vancouver) · [Full-time / On-site / Hybrid]
About Us
BAYS Technology is a Vancouver-based AI and IoT company focused on proactive property risk prevention. We built BAYS because property owners and insurers need smarter ways to prevent losses. Our integrated platform detects and prevents water damage, fire risks, and security threats before they turn into major losses.
We combine AI-driven analytics, smart sensors, and our own automation technologies. With them, we help property owners, strata corporations, and insurers reduce claims exposure, limit property damage, and manage risk more efficiently. For example, our smart water valve uses AI leak detection to shut off water automatically at the first sign of a leak.
Our vision is to help move the insurance industry from responding to claims toward preventing them. We are looking for an experienced iOS developer to own and grow the native iOS apps that put this protection in our users’ hands.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain native iOS apps that let users monitor and control smart sensors and devices in real time
- Implement device onboarding and provisioning over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Wi-Fi
- Integrate with our cloud IoT platform through REST APIs, MQTT, and WebSocket for telemetry, alerts, and remote control
- Build reliable, time-critical alerts and push notifications for water, fire, and security events, so users are warned early and can act before small issues become major losses
- Present AI-driven risk insights and device status clearly, for single homes as well as multi-unit and strata properties
- Maintain and modernize existing Objective-C code, migrating it to Swift step by step where it makes sense
- Support white-label and multi-brand app variants for partners
- Work closely with firmware, backend, AI, and Android engineers on device protocols and feature design
- Handle App Store submission, release management, and production issue troubleshooting
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional native iOS development
- Strong proficiency in Swift, with solid working knowledge of Objective-C (able to read, debug, and refactor legacy code)
- Experience with UIKit; SwiftUI experience is a strong asset
- Solid understanding of networking (URLSession, REST, JSON), concurrency (GCD, async/await), and local persistence (Core Data or similar)
- Experience with APNs push notifications and background execution limits
- Familiarity with common architectures (MVC, MVVM, or similar) and Git
- At least one app shipped to the App Store
Nice to Have
- Experience with MQTT, WebSocket, or other real-time messaging protocols
- Experience with IoT, smart home, or connected-hardware products
- Knowledge of Wi-Fi provisioning (SoftAP, SmartConfig) or Matter / HomeKit
- Experience in PropTech, InsurTech, or property management software
- Experience building white-label apps with multiple targets or configurations
- Unit/UI testing (XCTest) and CI/CD (Fastlane, Xcode Cloud, GitHub Actions)
- Basic Android or backend knowledge
- Ability to communicate in Mandarin
What We Offer
- Salary range: CAD $70000 per year
- Hands-on work combining AI, real hardware, and mobile in products that protect homes and buildings every day
- Meaningful work helping property owners and insurers move from reacting to losses to preventing them
- A small, fast-moving team where your work has direct impact
