An Overview Of Your Future Role At BBA
BBA supports all players across the energy ecosystem, including power generation, transmission and distribution. We also support large industrial energy users, mainly in the mining, oil and gas sectors. More recently, we’ve seen growing demand from a new category of large energy consumers, particularly data centres. To date, BBA’s involvement in the data centre market has been largely reactive, with developers and builders reaching out to us for our expertise in grid interconnections and power systems. Going forward, BBA will take a deliberate and proactive approach to this market by establishing a dedicated data centre business line.
Drawing On More Than 45 Years Of Experience Solving Complex Electrical Challenges, BBA’s Go-to-market Strategy Will Be Guided By The Following Principles
- Avoid commodity building design and leverage strategic partnerships where appropriate.
- Focus on projects larger than 25 MW.
- Lead the high-voltage scope.
- Lead grid integration activities.
- Lead substation design and delivery.
- Lead generation strategy development.
You’ll source and ensure successful delivery of power projects to meet the energy needs of large-load clients, primarily data centres. You’ll also occasionally support other industrial, community and utility clients operating in remote or partially grid‑connected environments. Initially, the role will focus on regional clients across Canada and gradually expand to include the U.S. market.
As a renewable power professional, you’ll lead the modelling, optimization and delivery of complex energy projects involving renewable technologies, including wind, solar PV, BESS, thermal and hydroelectric power. Your work will include studies, roadmaps and project execution.
BBA operates within a matrix structure, and the New Large Loads business line you’ll lead has both national and international focus. The business line is accountable for defining market strategy and overseeing sector performance. To deliver on its mandates, it works closely with BBA’s operational teams and disciplines across Canada and the USA. While most projects are executed through these regional teams, the business line may also directly manage and deliver certain strategic initiatives.
Business development
- Coordinate the development and execution of BBA’s data centre market strategy
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders across the data centre, utilities and industrial sectors
- Support the development of short‑, medium‑ and long‑term opportunity pipelines while identifying cross‑selling opportunities for BBA’s services
- Support project sourcing efforts by identifying opportunities that align with regional priorities across Canada and evolving data centre power needs
- Contribute to proposal development, client positioning and pursuit strategies for power and energy mandates
- Maintain a strong understanding of energy market trends, particularly for data centres, off‑grid, hybrid and utility‑linked power systems.
- Serve as project manager and technical lead for selected strategic projects, including project development support, feasibility studies, roadmaps and execution mandates
- Provide subject‑matter expertise in the modelling, optimization and integration of renewable and hybrid power systems (wind, solar PV, CSP, BESS, thermal storage, hydroelectric)
- Oversee technical reviews and coordinate engineering and design activities across disciplines
- Work closely with BBA’s multidisciplinary teams across Canada to ensure execution excellence and alignment with client objectives
- Help develop internal expertise in data centre development, power system optimization, hybrid energy solutions and renewable integration
- Support the development of tools, methodologies and reference models for studies, roadmaps and system optimization
- Participate in knowledge sharing and thought leadership activities, including internal training, technical contributions and industry engagements.
- Business acumen
- Strategic vision
- Action and results-driven
- Ability to see beyond established standards
- Constantly seeking sustainable and agile solutions
- Rigour and ethical
- Accountability and entrepreneurship
- Client-oriented with existing network
- Organizational agility.
- Engineering degree in a related discipline from a recognized university
- At least 15 years of relevant experience
- Experience in data centre development and execution, wind and/or solar power energy, consulting engineering, business development and project execution
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada
- Experience in equipment selection, capital cost and operating cost estimates
- Available to travel to domestic or international destinations is required.
