Your future role on our team
We’re seeking an intermediate electrical engineer with approximately six years of relevant engineering experience, primarily within the mining and industrial sectors, with additional exposure to electrical utility and power distribution projects.
You’ll support multidisciplinary engineering projects, from conceptual and feasibility studies through to detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning. You must have a solid understanding of electrical power systems, medium- and high-voltage equipment and industrial electrical distribution systems.

- Perform electrical engineering and design activities for mining, industrial and utility projects
- Develop and review single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, equipment specifications, data sheets, cable schedules, load lists and design calculations
- Perform or support load-flow, short-circuit, voltage-drop, motor-starting, protection-coordination, arc-flash and grounding studies
- Support the design and specification of MV/HV substations, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, protection and control systems, grounding systems and electrical distribution systems
- Provide electrical engineering support for mining facilities such as processing plants, crushers, conveyors, pumping systems, ventilation systems and associated infrastructure
- Support utility-related projects involving substations, distribution systems, feeders and utility interconnections
- Prepare technical specifications, equipment requisitions, bid evaluations and vendor drawing reviews
- Coordinate electrical design requirements with civil, structural, mechanical, instrumentation and controls and other engineering disciplines
- Participate in project meetings, design reviews, constructability reviews and client coordination meetings
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, testing and commissioning
- Review contractor RFIs, shop drawings, equipment substitutions and field changes
- Perform site visits, field investigations and collection of existing electrical system information
- Ensure designs comply with applicable Canadian electrical codes, industry standards, client standards and engineering practices
- Support senior engineers and project managers with engineering deliverables, schedules, budgets and technical coordination
- Provide guidance and technical support to junior engineers and designers, when required

Summary Of Certifications And Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized university
- Approximately six years of relevant electrical engineering experience
- P.Eng. designation in Canada or eligibility for registration preferred
- Demonstrated experience in the mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial sector
- Good understanding of medium-voltage and high-voltage power distribution systems
- Experience with electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, circuit breakers, protection relays, motors, VFDs, cables and grounding systems
- Familiarity with applicable standards and codes, such as CEC, CSA, IEEE and relevant utility standards
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and electrical design/documentation practices
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams and communicate directly with clients, vendors, contractors and other stakeholders
- Strong asset: experience or exposure to electrical utilities, substations or transmission/distribution systems
- Asset: experience with power system analysis software, such as ETAP, EasyPower, SKM, CYME or similar tools

- You’ll have experience in a combination of:
- Mining and mineral processing electrical design
- MV/HV substation and distribution system design
- Power system studies and protection coordination
- Electrical equipment specification and procurement support
- Utility interconnection and distribution experience
- Brownfield and greenfield project experience
- Site engineering, construction support and commissioning experience
- Experience working through different project stages, including conceptual studies, PFS/FS, detailed engineering and construction
- Ability to independently manage smaller electrical engineering packages while receiving overall direction from senior engineers or project managers
