What you’ll do
We have a challenging opportunity for an Engineering Team Lead to join the team based at BC Hydro's Edmonds office in Burnaby, BC. This position will be to lead a group of technologists and inspectors who provide quality assurance expertise and services during procurement, manufacturing, and fabrication. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multiple partners to set requirements for supplier evaluations and manufacturing surveillance, including test and inspection activities. This is an exciting technical leadership opportunity for someone who can build a strong team and build excellent relationships with other BC Hydro departments and with suppliers.
- Provide mentoring and coaching. Manage relationships within the broader Quality group.
- Collaborate with leadership within and outside the group to execute the Quality mandate.
- Manage key relationships with other groups involved in the delivery of projects and supply of materials to BC Hydro, including other departments, consultants, contractors and suppliers.
- Ensure that the team complies with company policies and practices.
- Provide safety leadership.
- Monitor and produce plans to ensure that qualified internal and external resources are available to meet work plans. Develop staffing strategy and recruit, select, and promote staff.
- Procure and oversee external resources, including engineering consultants and quality management firms, as required to deliver on work plans.
What you bring
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering recognized by Canadian universities.
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC).
- A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience.
- Exceptional written and verbal skills.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- A high EQ, people-centric leadership style with a safety-first mindset, strong leadership presence, excellent time management and organizational skills, and adept at making timely, practical business decisions with imperfect information.
- A record of using initiative and judgment to develop and implement solutions that address business and technical needs.
