Who We Are

Clark Wilson LLP is a leading, innovative law firm in British Columbia. For over 100 years, we’ve proudly advised clients on a comprehensive range of legal issues and with over 200 professionals serving some of the most recognizable brands in the world, we’ve built a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and excellence.

As leaders in our markets, we continue to grow by fostering strong relationships, delivering exceptional service, and empowering our people to succeed. We are consistently recognized for our professional achievements, and we take pride in creating a workplace where people enjoy coming to work every day.

How You’ll Help Us Better Serve Our Clients

Clark Wilson is seeking a Controller to join our busy Accounting team. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Finance, the Controller will oversee the Firm’s day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting, while providing leadership and guidance to the Accounting team.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in a professional services environment, a collaborative approach, and the ability to balance competing priorities and respond to the needs of colleagues across the Firm.

This full-time, permanent position offers the opportunity to join a collegial firm where collaboration, dedication and collective success are at the heart of our work.

What You’ll Be Doing

Every day will bring opportunities to learn and grow. Your regular responsibilities will include:

Overseeing the Firm’s day-to-day accounting operations.
Providing supervisory support and guidance to the accounting team.
Ensuring the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, and providing meaningful analysis to various groups within the Firm.
Overseeing and assisting with trust accounting processes and supporting the Firm’s compliance with applicable Law Society of British Columbia accounting and trust requirements, including preparing the annual Trust Report and coordinating trust examinations and audits.
Providing financial information and collaborating with colleagues across the Firm.
Working with external parties, including accountants, financial institutions, consultants and vendors.
Providing financial systems leadership, including optimizing financial systems and related applications, implementing system enhancements, automating accounting processes, and continuously improving financial workflows and reporting.
Undertaking projects related to the accounting and finance areas of the business.
Contributing to governance and policy work.
Providing backup support for accounting functions.
Supporting the broader needs of the Firm and Partnership, including providing coverage during absences, assisting with duties outside regular responsibilities, and responding to evolving operational priorities, as reasonably required.

We recognize that experience can come in different forms. If this opportunity interests you but you don’t meet every qualification, we still encourage you to apply.

How You’ll Be a Great Fit for This Role

Qualifications

This role is well suited to an experienced accounting professional with strong technical skills, initiative and drive. The successful candidate will bring the following qualifications and attributes:

A recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA or CMA).
Experience working in a mid-sized law firm or professional services firm.
Experience with trust accounting procedures in a professional services environment.
Proficiency with Excel.
Experience with Aderant software would be an asset.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
The ability to build credibility and develop strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the Firm.

What We Offer

The expected salary range for this role is $120,000 to $155,000. The final salary will reflect the successful candidate’s experience, qualifications and skills, as well as internal equity.

We also offer a comprehensive benefits package to support you both at work and outside of work, including:

Group RRSP
Health and Wellness Coverage: Medical, dental, vision, prescription drug coverage, paramedical services, mental health supports, life insurance, and emergency medical coverage while travelling.
Mental Health and Wellbeing: Access to mental health practitioners and wellness supports through our benefits plan and Health and Wellness Spending Account.
Pregnancy and Parental Leave Support: Top-up benefits to 100% of salary for a portion of your leave.
Health and Wellness Spending Account: Flexible coverage you can use in the way that works best for you, from fitness classes and wellness supports to pet care expenses.
Time Away: Generous vacation, along with five personal days each year.
Community and Culture: Weekly socials, team-building events, Employee Appreciation Week, and opportunities to give back through firm-supported initiatives.
Professional Growth: Training, resources, and opportunities to support your continued development.
Referral Program: Bonuses for successful employee referrals.
