We’re driven by purpose – delivering peace of mind to one in three BC households with insurance, roadside assistance, auto repair, Evo Car Share and Evolve E-Bike Share. With a long history of keeping roads safe and giving back in ways that build stronger communities, we offer a wide variety of meaningful, rewarding careers that move BC forward.

As the Assistant Manager, Insurance Accounting, you’ll play a hands-on leadership role supporting full-cycle insurance accounting, financial and regulatory reporting, internal controls, and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Insurance Accounting, you’ll work closely with Finance, Insurance Operations, Regulatory Compliance, Information Systems, auditors, and actuaries to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable financial information.

Who you are

  • You’re a collaborative, hands-on leader who enjoys balancing technical accounting responsibilities with leading and developing a team.
  • You bring strong judgment and know how to identify accounting, reporting, control, and data issues and recommend practical solutions.
  • You’re highly organized and comfortable managing competing priorities across monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cycles.
  • You communicate financial information clearly and build strong working relationships with both financial and non-financial partners.
  • You’re always looking for ways to improve processes, strengthen controls, and help your team deliver high-quality work.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the day-to-day work of five direct reports within the Insurance Accounting team, setting priorities, reviewing work, monitoring deadlines, and providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual insurance accounting and financial reporting activities, including close processes, account analysis, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and review statutory, regulatory, tax, and statistical filings while keeping on top of reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including journal entries, working papers, general ledger reconciliations, and sub-system reconciliations.
  • Investigate reconciling items, control exceptions, and data issues, escalating significant or unusual matters when needed.
  • Apply accounting policies and regulatory requirements and research and document accounting or reporting matters.
  • Support reinsurance and reserve-related accounting by validating data and coordinating information with actuarial and insurance partners.
  • Maintain internal controls and process documentation while identifying opportunities to strengthen controls, improve data quality, and make reporting more efficient.
  • Coordinate audit working papers and auditor requests and support audit and control remediation activities.
  • Support accounting system and process changes by documenting business requirements and participating in testing, implementation, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Partner with teams across BCAA to resolve issues and support accurate and timely financial reporting.

What you bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business or Commerce with a concentration in Finance or Accounting.
  • A completed CPA designation.
  • At least seven years of accounting or auditing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong technical accounting, financial reporting, account analysis, and reconciliation skills.
  • Experience researching and documenting accounting conclusions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing a team, including assigning work, reviewing deliverables, managing competing priorities, and providing regular coaching and performance feedback.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and professional judgment skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with integrated financial and reporting systems.
  • Experience identifying control or process gaps and implementing practical improvements.

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $120,000 and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity.
