Original job description

With nearly $300 billion of gross assets under management, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is one of the largest institutional investors in Canada. Since its inception in 2000, BCI has grown significantly and is now regarded as one of the most influential financial institutions globally, investing across a broad range of asset classes and strategies in both public and private markets. Today, BCI employs more than 750 people across offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York and London, and continues to be recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers, Canada’s Top Employers for Young People and BC’s Top Employers.

The Investment Strategy & Risk department plays a key role in setting, implementing, executing and monitoring the long-term strategies of BCI’s clients. Recognizing that robust in-house investment risk management capabilities are essential to making informed investment decisions, BCI continues to invest in the build-out of a world-class Investment Risk function.

Reporting to the Principal, Transactions and Total Portfolio Risk, the Senior Analyst/Associate plays a central role in BCI’s investment risk function, supporting the Fixed Income & Credit Investments Risk Management team and the Private Markets Risk Management team to evaluate the risk profile of private market investments before they reach the Investment Committee. Working across private credit, private equity, and infrastructure & renewable resources, the Senior Analyst/Associate conducts independent risk assessments that directly inform IC decisions on commitments. The role combines transaction-level analysis with total portfolio risk work and contributes to the team’s AI-driven risk frameworks that scale analytical coverage across BCI’s private market asset classes. The Senior Analyst/Associate is expected to work independently on complex analytical assignments, exercise sound judgment in ambiguous situations, and produce IC-ready outputs with minimal direction.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in investment risk, credit analysis or private market investment analysis. This experience could have been gained from another institutional investment organization, in a deal consulting or advisory capacity or within an infrastructure or private credit/fixed income organization. They will bring strong financial capability across financial modelling, scenario analysis, and factor-based risk analysis and ideally a knowledge of fundamental credit analysis, including financial structures, covenant packages, and downside scenario evaluation. Strong communication and relationship-building skills will also be essential, as this role requires the ability to work effectively with investment teams, risk colleagues and other stakeholders while contributing independent analysis in a rigorous, disciplined and fiduciary-focused environment.

Located in Victoria, this is a unique opportunity for a credit risk professional to join one of Canada’s most dynamic investment organizations. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support the growth of a new investment strategy, contribute to the evolution of BCI’s risk capabilities, and work on complex, high-impact transactions within a collaborative, world-class investment platform.

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off. The annualized base salary range for this role based in Victoria will range between CAD $90,000-$125,000 depending on the seniority of the final candidate.

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.

We thank all applicants for their interest in this position. Please note that we will only be in contact with those individuals moving forward with our client.
