Canada is experiencing a period of intense economic and technological change that won't wait for traditional timelines. To adapt, BDC is founding a new AI-native incubator with the mission to discover new ways to support Canadian entrepreneurs.

At the incubator, our goal isn't to study the future, it's to create it. To do this, we are recruiting a small team of experienced AI-native builders who will work on a blank canvas to reimagine how banking for small and medium-sized businesses works.

We sit at the intersection of strategy, technology, and execution. We work with startup speed, challenge existing assumptions, and focus on delivering practical outcomes that will meaningfully change how BDC serves entrepreneurs.

You will be joining a team with strong executive sponsorship and a mandate to experiment, learn quickly, and turn promising ideas into real solutions. Our success will not be measured by how many ideas we generate; it will be measured by the value we create for employees, clients, and Canadian businesses.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We're looking for a Product Manager who owns the impact of the incubator. This isn't a role that sits above the work and thinks big thoughts about the mid-to-long-term. You'll operate one to two cycles ahead of the team. We need someone who can see far enough to steer, but who is fundamentally an operator: the kind of person who gets things done, not just plans them.

You're accountable for what the incubator ships and the value it creates. On a traditional team you'd lean on Product Owners - here, you won't have any. The team is autonomous and holds the PO work itself, but the buck stops with you. You own the outcome end to end.

You're also the voice of the business. Our UX researcher owns the voice of the user, which frees you to own the numbers: you build and maintain our business case, our impact model, the costs, and the ROI. You're the one who can defend what we're doing with evidence, not enthusiasm.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

Be the voice of the business. Build and continuously update our business case - the impact, the numbers, the costs, the ROI - so we can make and defend decisions with real evidence.
Develop, own, and communicate the product vision and roadmap. With no POs to hand this off to, you're accountable for it end to end.
Assess and measure value and prioritize ruthlessly so the team focuses on the highest-value work aligned with our vision and BDC's priorities.
Work shoulder to shoulder with the team and stakeholders to turn the vision into something real.
Make great decisions in a timely way - often with incomplete information, and without waiting for certainty that isn't coming.
Work in an Agile environment: continuously revisit the business needs, refine priorities, set milestones and deliverables, and surface opportunities and risks as things evolve.

Negotiate priorities and scope and stay active in funding and scheduling conversations.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Experience as a Product Manager, or a relevant mix of education and experience.
Experience with the software Linear for product management (an asset)
In-depth knowledge of Composable architecture and integration with third party vendors/systems
Hand-on experience with Agents and LLMs in your craft as a product manager, and strong opinions on how it will evolve in the future

Industry and Client Experience

You know how to work with UX Design, customer service, business development, subject matter experts, and developers to build and ship complex software.
You've used user-centered design thinking, and you know how to prioritize the right features to create experiences BDC clients and internal users love.
You're genuinely curious about how entrepreneurs' needs are evolving and the realities of their ecosystems.
You have a growth mindset, you lead with curiosity, and you're open to feedback.
You've built products customers love - by helping them reach their goals and removing their pain points.
You understand commercial banking. This one's a necessity, not a nice-to-have.

Skills and Influence

Excellent stakeholder management, communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
Sharp analytical and problem-solving instincts. You can take complex information and make the whole room understand the vision and how we get there.
You're a team player who builds lasting, trusting relationships across a range of stakeholders.
You grow the team: you mentor others, you build morale, you share what works.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Decision Making and Strategy

You're at home in uncertainty. You have a real track record of making good calls with little information, lots of change, and a fast-moving environment - and adapting as new information lands.
You lead data-driven decisions: getting to the root cause of behavior, quantifying issues, validating what's working, and spotting new opportunities.
You break products down into MVPs that deliver the most customer value for the least work.
You're deeply comfortable with AI on two fronts. First, as an AI-driven PM - you know what it means to practice the craft in 2026 and how to use AI to sharpen and augment your own work. Second, on AI-driven product - you understand what it takes to build products powered by AI: the risks, the opportunities, and how to actually operationalize them.
