Job Title: HR Generalist

14-Month Fixed-Term Employment (Maternity Leave) | Onsite in Vancouver, BC | Salary: $80,000–$100,000/annum (depending on experience & qualifications) | Must hold a valid Canadian Work Visa

Our client, a global technology organization and one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to join its People Team for a 14-month fixed-term maternity leave coverage. Reporting to the Senior Director, People Team, the HR Generalist will provide hands-on HR partnership and support to approximately 250 employees in Vancouver, primarily within a technology and R&D environment, while also providing remote support to teams in Toronto and Montreal as needed. This is a broad, highly collaborative HR Generalist role spanning employee relations, HR programs and policies, talent development, recruitment, immigration support, employee engagement, investigations, and strategic people initiatives. The successful candidate will partner closely with leaders and employees while helping develop and maintain high-performing, engaged teams.

The ideal candidate is a well-rounded HR Generalist or HR Business Partner who can operate independently, exercise strong judgment, and comfortably move between strategic and hands-on responsibilities. The environment is fast-paced and evolving, so adaptability, strong emotional intelligence, communication skills, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and support the broader People Team will be important.

Responsibilities:

Provide day-to-day HR guidance, partnership, and support to leaders and employees within the Vancouver R&D organization
Serve as an initial point of contact for employee-related questions and concerns, appropriately prioritizing and escalating sensitive or critical matters
Partner with the Senior Director, People Team to develop and implement HR strategies, programs, policies, and initiatives aligned with business priorities
Coach and advise leaders on employee engagement, team development, performance, and other people-related matters
Support employee relations matters, providing practical and thoughtful guidance to employees and leaders
Participate in workplace compliance matters and support employee investigations as required
Contribute to talent development and broader learning and development initiatives
Support employee engagement and retention programs and identify opportunities to strengthen the employee experience
Provide support related to Canadian immigration processes, including permanent residency documentation and work permit applications
Support co-op recruitment, including coordination with universities and other recruitment activities
Contribute to recruitment activities and talent initiatives as business needs arise
Support the planning and coordination of internal and external employee events
Work collaboratively with the broader People Team on programs, processes, and special projects
Provide remote HR support to employees and leaders at the organization's Toronto and Montreal AI sites as needed
Help foster a positive, collaborative workplace culture and contribute to ongoing employee engagement initiatives
Manage multiple competing priorities and respond to changing business needs in a fast-paced environment
Take ownership of special projects and additional HR responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, with broad HR Generalist and/or HR Business Partner experience
Ideally 3+ years of experience as an HR Business Partner or HR Generalist supporting technical teams
Bachelor’s degree specializing in Human Resources Management
CPHR designation is considered an asset
Strong experience providing HR guidance and support to both employees and people leaders
Demonstrated experience with employee relations, including the ability to navigate sensitive and complex workplace matters
Employee investigation experience is considered an asset
Recruitment experience is beneficial, particularly exposure to co-op or university recruitment
Experience supporting employees within a technology or R&D environment is preferred, although candidates from other industries with strong transferable HR experience will be considered
Familiarity with Canadian immigration processes, work permits, or permanent residency support is considered an asset
Experience with Workday or a comparable HRIS is beneficial
Strong communication, relationship-building, influencing, and interpersonal skills
High level of emotional intelligence, sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive employee information appropriately
Comfortable operating independently and providing senior-level HR support with minimal direction
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple competing priorities and tight deadlines
Highly adaptable and comfortable working across a broad range of HR responsibilities rather than specializing in a single functional area
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Collaborative and team-oriented, with a willingness to step in and support the team wherever required
Self-motivated, proactive, and able to quickly adapt to changing business needs

Compensation & Benefits:

Base Salary: $80,000–$100,000 per year, with final compensation determined based on relevant experience, skills, qualifications, competencies, and job-related knowledge
