Job Title: Junior UI/UX Designer

Our client, a Calgary-based technology company, is seeking a Junior UI/UX Designer for a permanent, full-time onsite opportunity.
This is an opportunity for an early-career designer with 1–2 years of freelance or professional design experience to join a collaborative product team working on a specialized healthcare technology platform. The Junior UI/UX Designer will help transform complex medical information and workflows into clear, intuitive, and trustworthy digital experiences.
Working closely with designers, developers, project managers, sales team members, and product advisors, the successful candidate will contribute to both existing and new product features while continuing to develop their skills across UI/UX design, prototyping, design systems, and cross-functional product development.
The role is well suited to a designer who demonstrates strong design fundamentals, curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to take feedback and translate it into thoughtful design solutions. Candidates should be comfortable experimenting with different approaches and developing an understanding of specialized subject matter, including healthcare, sports, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
A portfolio is mandatory as part of the application. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their design thinking through case studies, experimentation, iterations, and examples of collaborative work - not simply finished designs.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of designers, developers, project managers, sales professionals, and product advisors to improve existing functionality and develop new product features
- Design user interfaces that make complex medical data and workflows clear, intuitive, and accessible
- Produce interface screens, layouts, and supporting design assets for a specialized healthcare technology platform
- Translate product requirements and complex user scenarios into thoughtful and scalable UI/UX solutions
- Participate in design critiques and incorporate feedback from fellow designers and cross-functional stakeholders
- Work with product advisors, users, sales teams, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and reconcile competing priorities
- Assist with the maintenance and evolution of design system components and documentation
- Create and refine prototypes to communicate interactions, workflows, and proposed user experiences
- Maintain strong attention to detail across design files, layer organization, prototypes, and final deliverables
- Collaborate with front-end developers to support the accurate implementation of design deliverables
- Support the development of presentation materials and slide decks as required
- Explore multiple design approaches through sketches, concepts, prototypes, and iterative experimentation
- Develop an understanding of healthcare, sports, and relevant legal and regulatory considerations to inform design decisions
- Use AI tools appropriately to augment the design process while maintaining independent design judgment and ownership of the final work
Qualifications:
- 1–2 years of freelance or professional UI/UX, product, or digital design experience
- Education or training in UI/UX Design, Interaction Design, Product Design, Graphic Design, or a related discipline
- A portfolio demonstrating hands-on UI/UX design work is required
- Strong foundational understanding of user interface and user experience design principles
- Proficiency with Figma and Adobe Creative Suite
- Familiarity with AI-assisted tools such as Claude and an interest in using AI to augment the design process
- Strong visual design skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to think through complex design problems and develop clear, scalable interface solutions
- Ability to receive and incorporate feedback from designers, users, advisors, sales professionals, and business stakeholders
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Curious and adaptable, with a willingness to learn about unfamiliar or specialized subject matter
- Strong organizational skills, including attention to design file structure, layers, documentation, and prototype interactions
- Familiarity with design systems and component-based design is considered an asset
- Experience designing original iconography is considered an asset
- Comfort working with or adjacent to software development and code is considered an asset
- Willingness to work outside established areas of expertise and learn new tools, technologies, and subject matter
Portfolio Requirements:
A portfolio is required to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates should include work that demonstrates both the quality of their design work and how they approach design problems.
The portfolio should include:
- Case studies demonstrating the candidate’s approach to solving UI and UX challenges
- Examples of design exploration and experimentation, including preliminary sketches, alternative concepts, discarded ideas, or unsuccessful iterations alongside finished work
- Examples of collaborative projects, with the candidate prepared to clearly explain their individual contribution and the contributions of other team members
- Work demonstrating strong design fundamentals, attention to detail, and thoughtful decision-making
