We are seeking a Senior Cloudera Data Lake Platform Consultant (Business Intelligence Specialist - Level 3) to provide critical operational support, infrastructure maintenance, and technical leadership for an enterprise Cloudera Data Lake environment.
In this role, you will ensure the stability, availability, performance, and security of the legacy data lake ecosystem supporting business-critical analytics, batch processing, and reporting workloads while facilitating a seamless transition to a modern Microsoft Azure and Databricks platform.
What You Will Be Doing
- Platform Operations & Maintenance: Provide daily operational support, cluster administration, and health monitoring for the Cloudera environment across HDFS, Hive, Impala, Spark, Kudu, Oozie, Hue, YARN, and Cloudera Manager.
- Incident & Problem Management: Lead troubleshooting, log analysis, and root-cause resolution for production incidents across infrastructure, OS, storage, and application layers.
- Modernization & Transition Support: Support the gradual migration of workloads to Azure Data Lake and Databricks, assisting with parallel operations, legacy dependency mapping, workload validation, and platform decommissioning.
- Performance & Capacity Optimization: Monitor and tune compute/memory utilization, YARN queues, HDFS storage, and query execution for high-volume analytics workloads.
- Security & Governance: Administer Ranger policies, Kerberos authentication, LDAP/Active Directory integrations, encryption controls, and vulnerability remediations.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Management: Coordinate technical escalations and manage support cases directly with Cloudera and software vendors.
- Knowledge Transfer & Documentation: Author standard operating procedures, support playbooks, architecture diagrams, and conduct structured knowledge-transfer sessions with internal technical teams.
Must-Haves
- Experience: Minimum 8+ years in data platform engineering, infrastructure support, or systems administration, with 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise Cloudera / Hadoop environments.
- Core Technical Stack: Advanced hands-on expertise in Cloudera (CDP/CDH) and the Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, Hive, Impala, Apache Spark, Kudu, Oozie, Hue, YARN, Cloudera Ranger, Apache Atlas, ZooKeeper).
- Platform & OS Administration: Proven expertise in Linux administration, Shell scripting, Python, SQL, REST APIs, and cluster health management.
- Security & Access Control: Solid experience managing Kerberos authentication, LDAP/AD integration, Ranger authorization policies, and vulnerability remediation.
- Incident & Capacity Management: Demonstrated track record managing production incidents, log diagnostics, workload queue tuning, and platform recovery for high-volume batch and reporting workloads.
Nice-to-Haves
- Cloud & Modernization Tech: Experience with Microsoft Azure (ADLS, Entra ID, Key Vault, Azure Monitor) and Databricks (Delta Lake, cloud data migration).
- Cloudera Certified Administrator / Professional
- Azure Certifications (Azure Administrator, Azure Data Engineer, or Azure Solutions Architect)
- Databricks Certifications (Data Engineer Associate/Professional, Apache Spark Developer)
- Linux Administration or ITIL Foundation certifications
Work Location & Hybrid Model
- Primary Locations: Sault Ste. Marie, ON OR Toronto, ON.
- Work Setup: Hybrid operational model (combining remote flexibility with assigned on-site days as required by business operations).
