Original job description

About BHP

At BHP, we believe our purpose goes beyond mining: we work to improve lives and create a more sustainable future. We are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide.

In Canada, our presence is growing with the development of one of the most significant potash projects in the world: Jansen. This project reflects our long-term commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth.

Come and be part of this success!

About Potash and the Jansen Project

Imagine being part of something truly world-class, something that's shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and responsible resource development. That's what the Jansen Potash Project offers.

Located about 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jansen is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable potash mines in the world. At approximately US$15.3 billion investment, it marks the biggest private investment in Saskatchewan's history, and a bold step forward for BHP in Canada.

Beyond its scale, Jansen will create lasting value for people and communities. The project is expected to support approximately 5,500 jobs during construction and around 900 permanent roles once production begins.

Whether you're looking to grow your career, make a meaningful impact, or be part of a legacy project, Jansen could be the place where it all begins.

The Challenge Ahead

Remotely monitor and operate the equipment within the production facilities including bulk material handling, processing, loadout, and tailings.
Manage process performance by adjusting operating parameters in alignment with operating standards, collaborating with field operators.
Identify and troubleshoot performance challenges with the equipment, raising work requests as required.
Manage process upsets and respond to deviations and alarms.
Perform pre-shift and shift close out reviews and reporting, including detailed handover with cross shift.
Track and report on production losses and downtime.
Contribute to RCAs and engage in problem-solving to develop countermeasures to issues.
Monitor and report on process control system performance and other production improvement opportunities.
Strives to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste.
Knows our customer and is obsessed with meeting their needs.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

Previous experience as a field or control room operator
Hands-on experience implementing operational processes
Knowledge of operational principles and policies
Proficiency with computer and information technology
Experience with Commissioning and/or operations start-up recommended
Experience with potash operations recommended

Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Occasional travel to the Jansen Mine Site will be required.

The position will initially operate on a Monday to Friday schedule, transitioning to a rotational roster as operations commence.

BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a resettlement allowance.

Why BHP?

With operations worldwide, BHP offers limitless opportunities. Whether it's competitive benefits, international career pathways, or the chance to be part of a world-class project like Jansen, at BHP you can shape a career that's truly yours.

We are proud to be recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2026, a testament to our dedication to fostering a positive, diverse, and rewarding work environment.

If you're looking for a place where your work has purpose, your growth is supported, and your impact is real, this could be your next step.

Application Deadline

This posting will be active until 11:59pm CST on October 25, 2026.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

At BHP, we understand that to bring your best, you need to feel your best. That's why our benefits are designed to support your health, your growth, and your personal balance.

Professional Development: Continuous learning and real opportunities for growth.
Compensation: Fair and competitive, reflecting your role, skills, and achievements.
Inclusive Culture: We foster a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and free to express their authentic identity.

And so much more!

About Our Process

At BHP, we are committed to employing individuals who align with the BHP Charter Values and meet the requirements of the role. As part of the recruitment process, there are several checks which may be conducted to demonstrate applicants' suitability for a role including police/criminal background checks, medical, drug and alcohol testing, due diligence checks, right to work checks, and/or reference checks.

We Support a Diverse Workforce

At BHP, we believe diversity makes us stronger. We're committed to creating a safe, inclusive workplace where everyone is treated fairly and can thrive. Our workforce reflects the communities where we operate, and we value all aspects of identity; gender, age, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion, neurodiversity, education, and more.

We ensure that our recruitment process is fair, accessible, and equitable. If you have a disability and need adjustments, please contact us at inclusion@bhp.com.

At BHP, we aim to unlock the enormous potential that diverse and inclusive teams bring to the workplace, to leave a strong legacy within and beyond our operations for the generations to come.

Based on existing demographics in our Potash project, preference in hiring will be given to qualified women and Indigenous Peoples who self-identify as such in the application process. This reasonable and justifiable measure has been implemented pursuant to section 56 of The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, 2018.
