Original job description

About BHP

At BHP, we believe our purpose goes beyond mining: we work to improve lives and create a more sustainable future. We are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide.

In Canada, our presence is growing with the development of one of the most significant potash projects in the world: Jansen. This project reflects our long-term commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth.

Come and be part of this success!

About Potash and the Jansen Project

Imagine being part of something truly world-class, something that's shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and responsible resource development. That's what the Jansen Potash Project offers.

Located about 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jansen is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable potash mines in the world. At approximately US$15.3 billion investment, it marks the biggest private investment in Saskatchewan's history and a bold step forward for BHP in Canada.

Beyond its scale, Jansen will create lasting value for people and communities. The project is expected to support approximately 5,500 jobs during construction and around 900 permanent roles once production begins.

Whether you're looking to grow your career, make a meaningful impact, or be part of a legacy project, Jansen could be the place where it all begins.

The Challenge Ahead

As Principal Health, you will provide strategic leadership and specialist expertise in the management of health-related risks, programs, systems, and initiatives across the business. You will play an important role in strengthening organizational capability, supporting evidence-based decision making, and driving continuous improvement in health management practices.

Working closely with operational and corporate stakeholders, you will influence health strategy, guide risk-informed decisions, and lead initiatives that help create a safe, healthy, and high-performing workplace. This role provides the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through collaboration, innovation, and a strong focus on business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Provide expert advice and leadership on occupational health, health-related risks, programs, standards, and initiatives to strengthen organizational capability.
Develop and drive health improvement strategies that enhance health outcomes and support early intervention and recovery at work, and promote consistent practices across the business.
Analyze complex information, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to support strategic and evidence-based decision making.
Lead and manage health-related projects such as fitness for work, pre-employment, mental health, health monitoring etc., ensuring successful delivery against agreed objectives, schedules, and outcomes.
Apply and promote BHP's risk management framework to identify, assess, and manage health-related risks.
Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including operational leaders, HR, medical providers, insurers and contractors to influence positive outcomes and support business priorities.
Lead the effective management of injury and workers' compensation claims, including oversight of case coordination, treatment pathways, worker restrictions, recovery at work and effective case closure.
Monitor emerging health issues, industry trends, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
Champion BHP's commitment to safety, customer value, operational excellence, and collaboration.

What You'll Bring to the Role

You are an experienced health professional with a strong track record of delivering strategic health outcomes within complex operational environments.

You will bring:

Advanced expertise in health management, including health systems, standards, programs, and risk management.
Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex qualitative and quantitative information and translate insights into practical actions.
Demonstrated experience leading projects and driving successful outcomes through planning, execution, and stakeholder engagement.
Strong understanding of risk management principles and the ability to make well-informed decisions that balance risk and value.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse groups.
Experience providing strategic advice that aligns with broader business objectives and long-term priorities.
A collaborative approach supported by a commitment to inclusion, continuous improvement, coaching, and customer-focused outcomes.

Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

Why BHP?

With operations worldwide, BHP offers limitless opportunities. Whether it's competitive benefits, international career pathways, or the chance to be part of a world-class project like Jansen, at BHP you can shape a career that's truly yours.

We are proud to be recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2026, a testament of our dedication to fostering a positive, diverse and rewarding work environment.

If you're looking for a place where your work has purpose, your growth is supported, and your impact is real, this could be your next step.

Why You'll Love Working Here

At BHP, we understand that to bring your best, you need to feel your best. That's why our benefits are designed to support your health, your growth, and your personal balance.

Professional Development: Continuous learning and real opportunities for growth.
Compensation: Fair and competitive, reflecting your role, skills, and achievements.
Inclusive Culture: We foster a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and free to express their authentic identity.

And so much more!

About Our Process

At BHP, we are committed to employing individuals who align with the BHP Charter Values and meet the requirements of the role. As part of the recruitment process, there are several checks which may be conducted to demonstrate applicants' suitability for a role including police/criminal background checks, medical, drug and alcohol testing, due diligence checks, right to work checks, and/or reference checks.

We Support a Diverse Workforce

At BHP, we believe diversity makes us stronger. We're committed to creating a safe, inclusive workplace where everyone is treated fairly and can thrive. Our workforce reflects the communities where we operate, and we value all aspects of identity, including gender, age, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion, neurodiversity, education, and more.

We ensure that our recruitment process is fair, accessible, and equitable. If you have a disability and need adjustments, please contact us at inclusion@bhp.com.

At BHP, we aim to unlock the enormous potential that diverse and inclusive teams bring to the workplace, to leave a strong legacy within and beyond our operations for generations to come.

Based on existing demographics in our Potash project, preference in hiring will be given to qualified women and Indigenous peoples who self-identify as such in the application process. This reasonable and justifiable measure has been implemented pursuant to Section 56 of The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, 2018.
