Original job description

About BHP

At BHP, we believe our purpose goes beyond mining: we work to improve lives and create a more sustainable future. We are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide.

In Canada, our presence is growing with the development of one of the most significant potash projects in the world; Jansen. This project reflects our long-term commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth.

About Potash and the Jansen Project

Imagine being part of something truly world-class, something that’s shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and responsible resource development. That’s what the Jansen Potash Project offers.

Located about 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jansen is set to become one of the world’s largest potash mines. With a US$15.3 billion investment, it marks the biggest private investment in Saskatchewan’s history, and a bold step forward for BHP in Canada.

But Jansen is more than a mine; it’s a long-term opportunity to build something meaningful. During construction, it will create around 5,500 jobs and once operations are fully ramped up, 900 permanent roles. Whether you're looking to grow your career, contribute to a sustainable future, or be part of a legacy project, Jansen could be the place where it all begins.

Why BHP?

At BHP, we are transforming the way mining is done. We embrace innovation, sustainability, and inclusion to build a smarter, safer, and more human future.

We are proud to be recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2026, a testament to our dedication to fostering a positive, diverse, and rewarding work environment. At BHP, you’ll be part of a team that values safety, integrity, performance, and collaboration.

Work Location

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK with a 7X7 rotational work schedule. Day shifts and night shifts apply to this role.

If the incumbent chooses to live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Jansen site (<90km). BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a relocation allowance.

Additionally, the successful applicant can reside in the company’s onsite camp, Jansen Discovery Lodge, on a drive in/out basis.

The Challenge Ahead

The Specialist Emergency Response will supervise the Field Response Team(s) in the execution of emergency responses, fire safety and rescue equipment inspection programs, training, rescue planning and community engagement.

In this role, you will:

Develop policies and procedures that provide direction for safe and effective emergency response operations.
Respond to and improve the effectiveness of emergency response services to uplift organizational capability in managing emergencies/incidents.
Identify and engage external stakeholders that may be involved in an emergency event at the BHP Jansen site.
Provide direction and oversite for projects related to emergency management.
Identify and assess risks, make risk informed decisions, use BHP's risk management framework, and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
Manage resources towards ensuring the fire safety inspection and audit program is executed as planned and entered into SAP.
Ensure all team members are meeting the required field leadership obligations.
Ensure all mine rescue and emergency response equipment is inspected and maintained in compliance with site standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsible for monitoring, executing, and documenting the training requirements of the field response teams.
Participate in the planning and execution of emergency exercises with field response teams and stakeholders.
Act as a liaison with operations and construction work planning functions and develop rescue pre-plans as required.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

Demonstrated experience in emergency response, preferably within the industrial or mining sector
Certification in First Aid and CPR is required
Professional/Industrial/Volunteer Fire Fighting experience is highly advantageous
Possession of mine rescue certification is beneficial
Knowledge of relevant health, safety, environmental regulations and standards
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to train and instruct others effectively
Proven problem solving skills and critical thinking abilities

Application Deadline

This posting will be active until 11:59pm CST on November 10, 2026.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

At BHP, we understand that to bring your best, you need to feel your best. That’s why our benefits are designed to support your health, your growth, and your personal balance.

Professional Development: Continuous learning and real opportunities for growth
Compensation: Fair and competitive, reflecting your role, skills, and achievements
Inclusive Culture: A workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and free to express their authentic identity

About Our Process

At BHP, we are committed to employing individuals who align with the BHP Charter Values and meet the requirements of the role. As part of the recruitment process, there are several checks which may be conducted to demonstrate applicants’ suitability for a role including police / criminal background checks, medical, drug and alcohol testing, due diligence checks, right to work checks, and/or reference checks.

Why Not You?

With operations worldwide, BHP offers limitless opportunities. Whether it’s competitive benefits, international career pathways, or the chance to be part of a world‑class project like Jansen, at BHP you can shape a career that’s truly yours.

If you’re looking for a place where your work has purpose, your growth is supported, and your impact is real, this could be your next step.

We Support a Diverse Workforce

At BHP, we believe diversity makes us stronger. We’re committed to creating a safe, inclusive workplace where everyone is treated fairly and can thrive. Our workforce reflects the communities where we operate, and we value all aspects of identity; gender, age, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion, neurodiversity, education, and more.

We ensure that our recruitment process is fair, accessible, and equitable. If you have a disability and need adjustments, please contact us at inclusion@bhp.com.

Based on existing demographics in our Potash project, preference in hiring will be given to qualified women and Indigenous peoples who self‑identify as such in the application process. This reasonable and justifiable measure has been implemented pursuant to section 56 of The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, 2018.
