Original job description

About BHP

At BHP, we believe our purpose goes beyond mining: we work to improve lives and create a more sustainable future. We are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide.

In Canada, our presence is growing with the development of one of the most significant potash projects in the world: Jansen. This project reflects our long-term commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth.

Come and be part of this success!

About Potash and the Jansen Project

Imagine being part of something truly world-class, something that's shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and responsible resource development. That's what the Jansen Potash Project offers.

Located about 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jansen is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable potash mines in the world. At approximately US$15.3 billion investment, it marks the biggest private investment in Saskatchewan's history and a bold step forward for BHP in Canada.

Beyond its scale, Jansen will create lasting value for people and communities. The project is expected to support approximately 5,500 jobs during construction and around 900 permanent roles once production begins.

Whether you're looking to grow your career, make a meaningful impact, or be part of a legacy project, Jansen could be the place where it all begins.

The Challenge Ahead

As a Specialist Emergency Response Trainer, you will play a key role in strengthening emergency preparedness, incident response capability, and security management across our operations.

This role contributes to the strategic management of emergency response initiatives while helping ensure our people, assets, and communities remain protected through effective planning, risk management, training, and continuous improvement.

Working within a safety-focused environment, you will collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders to improve emergency and security systems, drive operational readiness, and support a strong risk-aware culture. You will have the opportunity to influence preparedness programs, emergency response capability, and projects that enhance organizational resilience and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Support the development and continuous improvement of emergency response and mine rescue training systems, programs, standards and competency requirements for the operations
Develop, coordinate and deliver emergency response and mine rescue training including practical drills, exercises, scenario based learning appropriate to credible site emergency risks
Assess and verify individual and team competency, identify capability gaps and support development plans to maintain required response capabilities
Provide technical coaching and instruction in emergency response, mine rescue, incident command and associated response disciplines.
Maintain effective training plans, schedules, competency records, qualifications and assurance evidence
Support planning facilitation and evaluation of emergency exercises and mine rescue scenarios including lessons learned, finding and translating into improvement initiatives.
Work with emergency response personnel and operational leaders to ensure training reflects site hazards, credible scenarios, change to operations and emerging risks
Respond to emergency and security-related incidents in line with established procedures, ensuring effective reporting, escalation, and follow-through.
Provide technical expertise and guidance on emergency response, incident management, and security management practices.
Apply BHP's risk management framework to identify, assess, and manage operational and emerging risks.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support emergency response readiness and achieve shared safety objectives.
Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance systems, remove barriers, and improve operational effectiveness.

What You'll Bring to the Role

We are looking for an experienced emergency management professional who is passionate about safety, preparedness, and continuous improvement.

You will ideally bring:

Experience in emergency response, incident management, emergency services, industrial safety, security management, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of emergency preparedness, response planning, incident management systems, and response protocols.
Experience supporting or leading emergency response exercises, training programs, capability development, or continuous improvement initiatives.
Strong risk management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions in dynamic environments.
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build effective relationships across diverse teams.
Experience managing competing priorities while contributing to projects and operational outcomes.
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence, coach, and provide technical guidance.
A commitment to fostering safe, inclusive workplaces and maintaining high operational standards aligned with BHP values.

Work Location

This position is based at our Jansen Mine Site in Leroy, SK, offering a rotational schedule of 4 days on followed by 3 days off. For those not living locally, BHP provides relocation assistance to the local Jansen area. Alternatively, you can enjoy the convenience and comfort of our onsite camp accommodation at Discovery Lodge during your shifts.

BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a resettlement allowance.

Application Deadline

This posting will be active until 11:59pm CST on November 10, 2026.

Why BHP?

With operations worldwide, BHP offers limitless opportunities. Whether it's competitive benefits, international career pathways, or the chance to be part of a world-class project like Jansen, at BHP you can shape a career that's truly yours.

We are proud to be recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2026, a testament of our dedication to fostering a positive, diverse and rewarding work environment.

If you're looking for a place where your work has purpose, your growth is supported, and your impact is real, this could be your next step.

Why You'll Love Working Here

At BHP, we understand that to bring your best, you need to feel your best. That's why our benefits are designed to support your health, your growth, and your personal balance.

Professional Development: Continuous learning and real opportunities for growth.
Compensation: Fair and competitive, reflecting your role, skills, and achievements.
Inclusive Culture: We foster a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and free to express their authentic identity.

And so much more!

About Our Process

At BHP, we are committed to employing individuals who align with the BHP Charter Values and meet the requirements of the role. As part of the recruitment process, there are several checks which may be conducted to demonstrate applicants' suitability for a role including police/criminal background checks, medical, drug and alcohol testing, due diligence checks, right to work checks, and/or reference checks.

We Support a Diverse Workforce

At BHP, we believe diversity makes us stronger. We're committed to creating a safe, inclusive workplace where everyone is treated fairly and can thrive. Our workforce reflects the communities where we operate, and we value all aspects of identity; gender, age, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion, neurodiversity, education, and more.

We ensure that our recruitment process is fair, accessible, and equitable. If you have a disability and need adjustments, please contact us at inclusion@bhp.com.

At BHP, we aim to unlock the enormous potential that diverse and inclusive teams bring to the workplace, to leave a strong legacy within and beyond our operations for the generations to come.

Based on existing demographics in our Potash project, preference in hiring will be given to qualified women and Indigenous peoples who self-identify as such in the application process. This reasonable and justifiable measure has been implemented pursuant to section 56 of The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, 2018.
