Original job description

About BHP

At BHP, we believe our purpose goes beyond mining: we work to improve lives and create a more sustainable future. We are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide.

In Canada, our presence is growing with the development of one of the most significant potash projects in the world: Jansen. This project reflects our long-term commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth.

Come and be part of this success!

About Potash and the Jansen Project

Imagine being part of something truly world-class, something that´s shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and responsible resource development. That´s what the Jansen Potash Project offers.

Located about 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jansen is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable potash mines in the world. At approximately US$15.3 billion investment, it marks the biggest private investment in Saskatchewan’s history, and a bold step forward for BHP in Canada.

Beyond its scale, Jansen will create lasting value for people and communities. The project is expected to support approximately 5,500 jobs during construction and around 900 permanent roles once production begins.

Whether you're looking to grow your career, make a meaningful impact, or be part of a legacy project, Jansen could be the place where it all begins.

The Challenge Ahead

As Superintendent Health & Hygiene, you will lead the strategic delivery of health programs, systems, and initiatives that support the wellbeing of our workforce and strengthen health outcomes across our Potash operations.

This is a key leadership role where you will provide direction to a team of health professionals, oversee health management programs, and partner with stakeholders across the business to promote a strong culture of health and wellbeing. You will use data, risk-based thinking, and continuous improvement principles to drive effective health strategies, ensure compliance, and support operational performance.

Working within a dynamic environment, you will influence decision-making, lead improvement initiatives, and help shape the future of workforce health at one of Canada's most significant mining developments.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team responsible for delivering health and hygiene programs, services, and initiatives.
Provide leadership and technical expertise in the management of workforce health and occupational hygiene risks and health-related compliance requirements.
Oversee health and hygiene management systems, processes, and programs, ensuring they remain effective, compliant, and aligned with business objectives.
Drive the development and implementation of strategies that prevent occupational illness, reduce harmful exposures and improve workforce health outcomes.
Provide direction on health related programs and initiatives, including preventative health, wellbeing, injury management, and return-to-work practices.
Provide oversight for occupational hygiene programs including exposure assessments, monitoring, control verification, and management of engineering improvement plans for exposure reduction.
Lead the analysis of health and hygiene data and trends to support evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement.
Manage projects and improvement initiatives that deliver sustainable value and strengthen health outcomes.
Apply risk management principles to identify emerging risks, support informed decision-making, and promote a strong risk-aware culture.
Build and maintain effective relationships with operational leaders, external providers, regulators, and other key stakeholders.

What You'll Bring to the Role

You are an experienced health leader with a strong background in occupational health, workforce wellbeing, health services, or a related field within a complex operational environment.

You will also bring:

Demonstrated experience leading teams and developing capability through coaching, mentoring, and performance support.
Strong understanding of health management systems, workforce health programs, and health risk management practices.
Experience managing health-related initiatives designed to improve employee wellbeing, compliance, and organizational performance.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex information, identify trends, and translate insights into meaningful actions.
Experience leading projects, managing priorities, and delivering outcomes in a dynamic and evolving environment.
Sound knowledge of risk management principles and the ability to apply a structured, risk-based approach to decision-making.
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization.
Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

Why BHP?

With operations worldwide, BHP offers limitless opportunities. Whether it’s competitive benefits, international career pathways, or the chance to be part of a world-class project like Jansen, at BHP you can shape a career that’s truly yours

We are proud to be recognized as one of Canada´s Top 100 Employers for 2026, a testament of our dedication to fostering a positive, diverse and rewarding work environment

Why You'll Love Working Here

At BHP, we understand that to bring your best, you need to feel your best. That’s why our benefits are designed to support your health, your growth, and your personal balance.

Professional Development: Continuous learning and real opportunities for growth.
Compensation: Fair and competitive, reflecting your role, skills, and achievements.

And so much more!

About Our Process

At BHP, we are committed to employing individuals who align with the BHP Charter Values and meet the requirements of the role. As part of the recruitment process, there are several checks which may be conducted to demonstrate applicants’ suitability for a role including police / criminal background checks, medical, drug and alcohol testing, due diligence checks, right to work checks, and/or reference checks.

We Support a Diverse Workforce

At BHP, we believe diversity makes us stronger. We’re committed to creating a safe, inclusive workplace where everyone is treated fairly and can thrive. Our workforce reflects the communities where we operate, and we value all aspects of identity; gender, age, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion, neurodiversity, education, and more

At BHP, we aim to unlock the enormous potential that diverse and inclusive teams bring to the workplace, to leave a strong legacy within and beyond our operations for the generations to come

Based on existing demographics in our Potash project preference in hiring will be given to qualified women and Indigenous peoples who self-identify as such in the application process. This reasonable and justifiable measure has been implemented pursuant to section 56 of The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, 2018.
