Original job description

About BHP

At BHP, we believe our purpose goes beyond mining: we work to improve lives and create a more sustainable future. We are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide.

In Canada, our presence is growing with the development of one of the most significant potash projects in the world - Jansen. This project reflects our long‑term commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth.

About Potash and the Jansen Project

Imagine being part of something truly world‑class - something shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and responsible resource development. That’s what the Jansen Potash Project offers.

Located about 140 kilometres east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jansen is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable potash mines on the planet. With a CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment, it represents the largest private investment in Saskatchewan’s history, and a bold step forward for BHP in Canada.

But Jansen is more than a mine; it’s a long‑term opportunity to build something meaningful. During construction, it will create ~5,500 jobs, and once operating, ~900 permanent roles. Whether you're looking to grow your career, contribute to a sustainable future, or be part of a legacy project, Jansen could be the place where it all begins.

Why BHP?

With operations worldwide, BHP offers limitless opportunities. Whether it's competitive benefits, international career pathways, or the chance to be part of a world-class project like Jansen, at BHP you can shape a career that's truly yours.

We are proud to be recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2026, a testament to our dedication to fostering a positive, diverse and rewarding work environment.

If you're looking for a place where your work has purpose, your growth is supported, and your impact is real, this could be your next step.

The Challenge Ahead

As a Supervisor Surface Production, you will play a critical role in leading frontline operations as we operationalize our surface production team from a greenfield project environment through commissioning and into operational execution. You will supervise daily activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations while fostering strong engagement, discipline, and continuous improvement across your team.

This is a hands-on leadership role that requires visible field presence, sound risk-based decision-making, and the ability to respond effectively to operational challenges and emergency situations in a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise operational activities deliver continuous, safe, and productive operations.
Lead routine operational and safety activities, including pre-starts, inspections, toolbox talks, and shift handovers.
Provide visible field leadership, embedding BHP’s safety and field leadership frameworks into daily work.
Identify, assess, and manage operational and process safety risks using BHP’s risk management framework.
Respond to and manage hazards and emergency situations until formal relief is received.
Prioritise work, allocate resources effectively, and adjust plans in response to changing operational conditions.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, and operational performance.
Foster a risk-aware, inclusive, and engaged team culture focused on achieving 100% safety, 100% customer value, and 0% waste.

What You'll Bring to the Role

Proven experience supervising operations in a fixed plant, mining, or heavy industrial environment.
Strong understanding of operational risk management, process safety, and regulatory compliance.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams through dynamic operational conditions with a safety-first mindset.
Confidence using operational technologies and digital systems to interpret data and support decision-making.
Experience responding to incidents and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Strong communication, coaching, and people leadership skills that support team engagement and performance.
A valid Saskatchewan driver’s license (required).
Emergency response training (considered an asset).

Work Location

This position is based at our Jansen Mine Site in Leroy, SK, offering a rotational schedule of 7 days/nights on followed by 7 days/nights off. For those not living locally, BHP provides relocation assistance to the local Jansen area. Alternatively, you can enjoy the convenience and comfort of our onsite camp accommodation at Discovery Lodge during your shifts.

BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a resettlement allowance.
