Bilingual Collections Agent (French and English Required)

Location: Barrie, Ontario

Work Model: In-office

Schedule: 40 hours per week, with rotating shifts between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday, including occasional Saturdays

Employment: Full-time

Salary: $40,000 annual base salary plus performance-based commissions averaging approximately $1,500 per month. Commissions are earned based on collections performance.

Languages: Strong spoken and written French and English skills to communicate with customers in both languages

Work Eligibility: Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Introduction

Are you motivated by results, energized by a fast-paced environment, and confident navigating challenging customer conversations?

Our client, a growing company in the financial services sector, is looking for a Bilingual Collections Agent to join its Barrie team. This opportunity is ideal for someone with previous debt collections experience who enjoys negotiating solutions, achieving measurable goals, and earning commissions based on performance.

You will work directly with French-speaking and English-speaking customers to resolve overdue accounts, develop realistic repayment arrangements, and help customers move toward better financial outcomes.

If you thrive in a structured, high-volume call centre where your communication skills, resilience, and results make a difference, this could be your next move.

Why You'll Want This Role

Earn commissions: Build on your $40,000 base salary with performance-based commissions averaging approximately $1,500 per month.
Grow your expertise: Strengthen your negotiation and collections skills while working with accounts at different stages of delinquency.
Make an impact: Help customers find practical repayment solutions while contributing directly to recovery targets.
Join a supportive team: Work in a collaborative environment that values accountability, performance, and customer service.
Enjoy meaningful benefits: Access health and dental coverage, wellness initiatives, and paid time off.

What You'll Do

You will manage overdue customer accounts in a high-volume collections environment, balancing firm negotiation with empathy and professionalism. Your goal will be to secure repayment arrangements, prevent further delinquency, and meet individual and team recovery targets while following applicable regulations and company procedures.

This is a hands-on debt collections position, not an accounting or accounts receivable role. You can expect approximately 20 calls per hour and clear performance metrics that help you measure your progress.

Responsibilities

Contact French-speaking and English-speaking customers regarding overdue accounts and outstanding payments.
Negotiate repayment arrangements within approved guidelines and authority levels.
Develop realistic repayment plans based on individual customer circumstances.
Manage accounts across different stages of delinquency, including early-stage and late-stage collections.
Handle approximately 20 calls per hour while maintaining professional and productive customer interactions.
Explain account balances, payment options, and next steps clearly and respectfully.
Assess account risks and escalate complex situations when appropriate.
Maintain accurate records of customer conversations, payment commitments, and follow-up activities.
Follow applicable collection regulations, internal policies, and established procedures.
Achieve individual and team collection targets while delivering strong customer service.
Collaborate with colleagues and adapt to changing priorities in a busy call centre.

Qualifications

Required:

1+ years of experience in debt collections, financial services, or a related customer account recovery role.
Strong spoken and written French and English skills for discussing overdue accounts, negotiating repayment arrangements, and documenting customer interactions.
Confidence handling difficult financial conversations with professionalism, empathy, and appropriate boundaries.
Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
Ability to work in a high-volume, target-driven call centre environment.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Ability to work independently while contributing to team goals.
Availability for rotating shifts within the Monday-to-Saturday scheduling window, including occasional Saturdays.
High school diploma or equivalent education.
Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Assets:

Previous experience collecting overdue consumer accounts in banking, lending, telecommunications, credit cards, or related financial services.
Experience managing accounts at multiple stages of delinquency.
Experience working with collection targets, call volume expectations, and performance metrics.
Intermediate proficiency with common office productivity and communication applications.

Benefits

Two weeks of vacation.
Health and dental coverage after 90 days.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Paid birthday off.
Paid wellness days.
Employee recognition and rewards program.
