This position is hybrid-based to Biogen's Cambridge, MA offices with in-office presence; however, there may be exceptions for strong U.S.-remote based talent to be considered.

About This Role

As the Associate Director, Field Excellence Lead, Nephrology, you will play a pivotal strategic role in maximizing the effectiveness, consistency, and impact of Biogen's Nephrology field organization supporting Empaveli, and future nephrology assets. You will serve as the primary strategic partner between Headquarters and the Field, ensuring commercial strategies are translated into actionable, field-ready execution that accelerates business performance and enhances customer engagement.

This role will be accountable for shaping and advancing field effectiveness capabilities across the Nephrology franchise, with a particular emphasis on Account Planning Excellence, Launch Excellence, Performance Management, Field Capability Development, Customer Engagement Strategy, and Voice of Field leadership. Acting as the connective tissue across Sales Leadership, Marketing, Market Access, Medical, Patient Services, Training, and Commercial Operations, you will ensure field teams are equipped to execute consistently, compliantly, and effectively in a complex rare disease environment.

As a member of the North America Commercial Operations organization, this individual will help evolve the future of Field Excellence by identifying scalable best practices, driving organizational effectiveness, and building differentiated capabilities that elevate customer engagement and business outcomes across the Nephrology franchise.

What You'll Do

Serve as the strategic Field Excellence partner to Nephrology Sales Leadership, translating franchise strategy into executable field action plans and measurable business outcomes.
Lead field effectiveness initiatives that improve execution quality, customer engagement, organizational performance, and field productivity.
Establish and lead a best-in-class Account Planning capability, including frameworks, tools, governance, coaching approaches, and organizational adoption strategies.
Partner with Sales Leadership to drive excellence in account-based engagement across key nephrology practices, centers of excellence, and organized customers.
Serve as the Voice of the Field, developing processes to capture, synthesize, and communicate field insights that influence business decisions and improve field readiness.
Develop and scale field-generated best practices into national execution strategies and field effectiveness programs.
Partner with Training and Commercial Capabilities teams to identify capability gaps and implement development programs that enhance field performance.
Lead field readiness and launch preparedness activities for new indications, assets, and strategic initiatives within the Nephrology portfolio.
Collaborate with Marketing, Medical, Market Access, Patient Services, Compliance, and Commercial Operations to ensure integrated and compliant execution.
Drive adoption and optimization of Commercial Operations tools, processes, and capabilities supporting the field organization.
Support performance management processes, business reviews, field engagement planning, and execution monitoring.
Lead therapeutic area-specific strategic initiatives aligned with franchise priorities and commercial objectives.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, accountability, and operational excellence across the field organization.
Influence senior leaders and stakeholders across a highly matrixed environment to achieve business objectives.

Required Skills

Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree (MBA, MSc, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent) preferred.
10+ years of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, specialty pharmaceutical, or rare disease commercial experience.
Minimum 3+ years of field line leadership experience managing customer-facing teams (District General Manager, Regional Director, Area Business Director, or equivalent).
Demonstrated success leading field teams through business planning, execution, and organizational change.
Experience in Commercial Operations, Field Excellence, Sales Effectiveness, Marketing, Sales Leadership, or related commercial roles.
Proven success translating strategy into operational execution within highly matrixed organizations.
Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
Strong communication, storytelling, executive presentation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
Experience with CRM platforms, with Veeva strongly preferred.
Strong business planning, problem-solving, and change management capabilities.
Executive presence and ability to influence across all levels of the organization.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $162,000.00-$222,750.00

Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.

Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
