Original job description

Birch Mountain Enterprises LP (BME) is hiring a temporary Recruiter for approximately 3-6 months

Why Join BME?
At Birch Mountain Enterprises LP, we recognize that our employees are the foundation of our success. We offer a supportive and collaborative work environment where employees are encouraged to contribute ideas, take initiative, and grow professionally.
As part of our HR team, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping attract the people who keep our operations running.

Company Background:

Established in 2005, Birch Mountain Enterprises is an equal opportunity employer with over 400 employees throughout the Fort McMurray region. Operating from its main operations in Fort McKay, BME provides vac, water, waste, fuel, and flat bed hauling services to industrial and commercial customers.

When you join our team, you join a family of employees dedicated to a safe, enjoyable, and positive work environment. We offer competitive wages and seek candidates that are seeking secure, long-term employment.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and results-driven Recruiter who enjoys connecting with people, building relationships, and finding the right talent to support our growing organization.
Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Recruiter will be responsible for managing the full-cycle recruitment process, from sourcing and screening candidates through to coordinating interviews, offers of employment, and pre-employment requirements.
This is a fast-paced role that requires someone who can manage competing priorities, think creatively about recruitment strategies, and work closely with hiring managers to understand their staffing needs. The successful candidate will take a proactive approach to building candidate pipelines, improving recruitment processes, and ensuring a positive experience for candidates and hiring managers alike.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition

Manage full-cycle recruitment for a variety of operational, trades, and administrative positions.
Develop and post engaging job advertisements across recruitment platforms, and other sourcing channels.
Proactively source and attract qualified candidates through job boards, networking, referrals, and community outreach.
Review applications, conduct initial candidate screenings, and assess qualifications against position requirements.
Coordinate interviews, reference checks, and candidate assessments with hiring managers.
Prepare and coordinate offers of employment and ensure all pre-employment requirements are completed.
Maintain an active pipeline of qualified candidates to support current and anticipated workforce needs.
Conduct new hire orientations in coordination with HSE and Training.

Recruitment Strategy & Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve recruitment processes, candidate experience, and hiring efficiency.
Develop creative sourcing strategies to attract candidates for difficult-to-fill positions.
Build and maintain relationships with recruitment partners, training institutions, employment agencies, and community organizations.
Support recruitment initiatives, job fairs, employee referral programs, and other workforce attraction activities.
Collaborate with the HR team on workforce planning, employee retention initiatives, and recruitment reporting.

Recruitment Coordination & Administration

Work closely with hiring managers to understand staffing requirements, recruitment priorities, and timelines.
Maintain accurate candidate records and recruitment activities within the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
Coordinate pre-employment testing, including drug and alcohol testing, medical assessments, and other position-specific requirements.
Support the transition of successful candidates through the hiring and onboarding process.
Monitor recruitment progress, track vacancies, and provide regular updates on recruitment activities and hiring outcomes.
Ensure recruitment practices are consistent, professional, and compliant with applicable employment legislation and company policies.

Qualifications & Experience

Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
Minimum 2–3 years of recruitment experience, preferably in a fast-paced industrial, construction, transportation, or trades environment.
Experience recruiting skilled trades, heavy equipment operators, Class 1 and Class 3 drivers, or other industrial positions is considered a strong asset.
Experience managing full-cycle recruitment and coordinating multiple vacancies simultaneously.
Familiarity with Applicant Tracking Systems, recruitment platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of Alberta employment legislation and recruitment best practices.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.

What We're Looking For
Beyond experience and qualifications, we're looking for someone who brings the right attitude and approach to recruitment.
Our ideal candidate is someone who:

Takes initiative: Doesn't wait for applications to come in but actively looks for ways to connect with qualified candidates.
Builds relationships: Enjoys working with people and understands the importance of communication with both candidates and hiring managers.
Stays organized: Can manage multiple vacancies, changing priorities, and tight deadlines without losing track of the details.
Thinks creatively: Is willing to try new approaches to reach candidates in a competitive labour market.
Follows through: Takes ownership of recruitment activities and ensures candidates and hiring managers are kept informed throughout the process.
Works well with a team: Brings a positive, collaborative attitude and is willing to support the broader HR team when needed.

Submission:
We thank you for your interest in Birch Mountain and remind all candidates that only successful applicants will be contacted. Based on equal qualifications, preference will be given to local candidates.
