BIS Safety Software is a SaaS company on a mission to change how organizations manage safety, learning, and compliance. Since 2006, we've been building software in a space where accuracy and trust matter, and our team is growing across Alberta, BC, and Ontario. We are expanding our team and are looking to add a detail-oriented Payroll Administrator who will own payroll for our team members and help make our processes sharper as we grow.
About the role:
This role is focused on the accurate, on-time processing of payroll for our team members in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario. Alongside full-cycle payroll, you'll handle benefits administration and commission calculations, keep us compliant with federal and provincial requirements, and post payroll through to our accounting system. You'll also have room to improve how we work. We use ADP Workforce Now and Microsoft Dynamics, and we want someone who will look at our existing workflows and help streamline them, not just keep them running.
This is a part-time, hourly position of approximately 20 hours per week, with flexibility to set your own schedule. The key commitment is having payroll approved by Wednesday of each pay week. Beyond that, your hours can flex up or down with workload and capacity.
This is an in-person role based out of our Sherwood Park, AB office.
In this role, you'll be expected to:
- Run full-cycle payroll - prepare, verify, and process pay statements for full-time and part-time team members, including gross and net earnings, tax deductions, CPP, EI, and benefits
- Maintain accurate earnings records - create, review, and maintain records for hours worked, commissions, banked time, flex days, statutory holidays, vacation, benefits, and taxable benefits
- Keep us compliant - ensure payroll meets federal and provincial requirements, and handle reporting for WCB, WSIB, and WorkSafeBC
- Own year-end - complete annual regulatory filings, remittance reconciliation, and tax slips, including T4As for contractors
- Post and report - post payroll in Dynamics by department and prepare payroll-related reports, statements, and summaries
- Streamline our workflows - find ways to make our payroll processes in ADP Workforce Now faster, cleaner, and more reliable
You might be the right fit if you are:
- Paying close attention to detail and genuinely enjoying working with numbers
- Comfortable navigating Canadian labour standards, knowing the overall framework and how to find, interpret, and apply what you need for Alberta, Ontario, and BC
- Finding answers independently and bringing a resourceful attitude when something isn't straightforward
- Bringing a positive, upbeat energy and a strong work ethic to the team
- Spotting opportunities to improve a process and taking the initiative to make it better
- Managing your own time well, meeting firm deadlines while working a flexible, self-directed schedule
Qualifications we are looking for:
- 3+ years of experience in a payroll position
- Full-cycle payroll experience, including accounting posting
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now
- Strong skills in MS Excel
Bonus points if you have:
- Canada Payroll Association certification, such as PCP or CPM
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics – Business Central 365
Related post-secondary education
Compensation and benefits:
- Flexible working hours
- On-the-job training and growth opportunities
- Free on-site parking
